Jointly with 294 Inc. from Tokyo, Humarish Club is pleased to present “Life is but a Dream”, the first solo exhibition of Japanese contemporary artist Ogihara Fuka in Macau starting from 15th April, 2023. The exhibition features 35 important series of paintings and drawings emerged from the artist’s recent exhibitions and studies. Taking traditional Chinese painting as the core of the exhibition, Fuka’s work combines Southern Dynasty Song paintings with modern girls, which symbolizes “fusion” – Little fairy-looking girls represent a bridge connecting the present and the past. The works by Fuka also symbolize that human is an independent individual integrated in nature and the will of the universe, opening a unique and conceptual surreal window for audience, leading the public to explore deeper into boundaries and integration. Esteemed guests to attend the inauguration including, Mr. Yukio Shiraishi, Chairman of Whitestone Gallery; Ms. Julia Lam, Macau local artist; Mr. Siomeng Chan, Vice President of Macao Illustrators Association; Mr. Cai Guo Jie, President of Macau Public Art Association; Dr. Connie Kong, Founder and CEO of Humarish Club, Mr. Hua Yuzhou, Founder and Art Director of Humarish Club, Ms. Christine Hong, Vice President of Retail Business Development of Lisboeta Macau, together with Ms. Ogihara Fuka, Exhibition Artist.
Fuka takes “boundary” as the theme, which is a state and a boundary, aims to explore and integrate into the state of oriental aesthetic consciousness in her creation. Fuka tries to blend various boundaries in her paintings, with the artist’s professional “Japanese painting” is often discussed in a context different from those “Japanese painting” before the Edo period, she wants to position the standpoint of deliberately painting “Japanese paintings” covering the pre-Edo period. Fuka believes the same aesthetic consciousness exists in all paintings painted in Japan, paintings to be painted, and “Japanese paintings” in a narrower sense. The art works developed to the date, with splits and continuations, Fuka searches for answers in the classics to connect these relationships because she believes there is an image inside and outside of Japan that does not depend on the Western context, which is the root of the Eastern aesthetic consciousness and the unique Japanese aesthetic consciousness developed from there. As such, many of paintings by Fuka uses reproduction techniques that refer to “classical techniques” from past literary works.
“We stand on the culture created by classical paintings”, Fuka believes in her mission to study Japanese painting and history, so as to re-understand her culture and clarify her own modern value standards, and create things that can be reinterpreted in contemporary culture and life. She wants to create a new view of painting that connects the past and the present, integrates the internal and the external, and transcends various boundaries.
