Intangible Cultural Heritage Celebrations

“Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival” will take place on the 9th and 10th of June between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The “China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” will be celebrated in Macau with a series of events ranging from exhibitions, thematic talks, workshops and performances by artistic and cultural companies. Mandarin’s House and Lilau Square are the chosen locations to host “Macao’s Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival”, which will take place on the 9th and 10th of June between 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The performances to be presented by artistic and cultural companies include Cantonese Opera, Drunken Dragon Dance, Cantonese Naamyam (narrative songs) and Taoist Keyi Music. In the framework of the lectures and workshops prepared by the Cultural Institute (IC), organizer of the events, two lectures on the  “Overview of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Macao” by the Associate Professor of the Centre of Sino-Western Cultural Studies, of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Lam Fat Iam, and a lecture on "Beliefs and Customs of Na Tcha", by the representative heirs of representative items of intangible cultural heritage at the national level, Chiang Kun Kuong and Ip Tat, as well as a workshop on the Craft of Bamboo Scaffolding will take place.

For the workshop and lectures, interested parties should subscribe to the IC's activity registration system. The celebrations aim to "promote an environment conducive to the safeguarding of cultural heritage, as well as to raise public awareness of local intangible cultural heritage" which, through various activities and modes of presentation, aim to enable "communication and interaction and enhance and disseminate Macao's intangible cultural heritage."

The Carnival will be open to the general public, with free entrance to all events.
