Embark on a gastronomic journey to discover Italian cuisine. The August Bene Food & Wine Mercato moves from Lazio to Campania in Southern Italy. On August 3 and 4, Bene, Sheraton Grand Macao’s Italian trattoria will explore the cuisine from Campania, the region of Southern Italy known throughout the world for its pizza and pasta, two Italian staples that have come to symbolize the country throughout the world.

Situated in the South of Italy, Campania is a mountainous and hilly region that stretches along the Tyrrhenian Sea, from the mouth of the Garigliano River to the Gulf of Policastro. Campania is blessed with rich arable soils and accessibility to ports for fresh ingredients from the sea. Within the region, there are different types of cuisine — while Neapolitan dishes centre on seafood, Casertan and Aversan ones rely more on fresh vegetables and cheeses. Naples, the capital city of Campania, is also known as the birthplace of pizza, and is where flatbread dishes were developed to later evolve into the modern pizza as we know it in the late 18th century.

To showcase the best of Campania’s traditional cuisine, Bene’s Executive Sous Chef Luca Pecorari has specially crafted an one-off menu for this edition of Bene’s Food & Wine Mercato, featuring more than 15 types of Italian delicacies and 5 types of Italian wines at the food and wine booths, along with a selection of dishes served at the table. Highlights include mozzarella in carrozza (pan fried breaded mozzarella and ham), rigatoni alla genovese (the famous 6-hour cooked ragu napoletano, rigatoni and parmigiana), branzino all’acqua pazza (baked seabass with San Marzano tomato, oregano garlic evo oil and sautéed broccoli) and braciole alla napoletana (slow cooked beef roll stuffed with sultana, pecorino cheese, garlic, roasted eggplant and herbs).

Inspired by Italy’s colorful markets, Bene tantalizes epicurean palettes with an abundance of flavors and different culinary traditions. Bene’s Food & Wine Mercato presents the finest ingredients, authentic dishes and handpicked wines from Italy. Inviting and interactive, guests are welcomed with live cooking stations, artisanal retail products, as well as by wine professionals who can share more stories about their craft.
