António, an award-winning, Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant in Taipa Village Macau, is delighted to welcome David Abreu as its new chef, who brings more than a decade of distinguished fine-dining experience to this landmark destination.
David’s rise through the ranks of the restaurant trade began in his home country of Portugal, where he brought his flair to kitchens at a number of renowned luxury hotels, including the Pestana Viking Beach & Spa Resort, the SANA Malhoa Hotel, the Grande Real Villa Itália Hotel & Spa and the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon. In 2017, David moved to the UK, where he enriched and expanded his repertoire of European cooking, honing his fine-dining culinary skills at the Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire and, most recently, the renowned Three Michelin Star Waterside Inn, under the mentorship of legendary Chef Alain Roux.
With his enthusiasm, passion and unique culinary style, David has skilfully crafted modern interpretations of an array of traditional Portuguese dishes, with a core philosophy based on the use of the finest ingredients. His creative vision and pursuit of culinary excellence has infused António’s menu with new energy and inspiration, offering the finest and most authentic Portuguese cuisine and sustaining the legacy of Portuguese dining and culture in Macau.
Chef David’s signature dishes include veal loin Mirandesa (a Portuguese specialty beef), marinated sardines on homemade corn bread toast, slow roasted suckling pig with potatoes, orange and fresh mixed salad, as well as succulent seafood rice in Portuguese style, all prepared and plated with pride and elegance.
Jose Reis, Head of Food & Beverage at Taipa Village Destination Limited says: “Chef David Abreu is destined to take António to the next level, bringing guests a Portuguese fine-dining experience like no other in Asia.”
Chef David says: “I look forward to developing and enhancing António’s cuisine with highly innovative elements to offer guests an ever more enticing gastronomic experience.”
Since its opening in 2007, António has established itself as the leading light in Macau’s Portuguese fine-dining scene, and has garnered a recommendation from the Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau for the past 11 years.
