This past summer was one that most of us would probably like to put behind us, with the city going into full lockdown, and swimming pools, beaches, parks and restaurants all being closed. But now, as we head into the lovely days of Autumn, there seems be a generally hopeful feeling that things will continue to get better. And traditionally, the last few months of the year are packed with fun and exciting events, not to mention beautiful weather, so let’s hope we can all enjoy this time to the fullest.
This month the Macau International Music Festival is in full swing, so make sure you check out all the details in our special supplement inside. And in the spirit of international musicians, this issue we meet up with some talented performers, all with strong ties to Macau, who are making their mark on the music scene around the world, from the western provinces of China to London, Los Angeles and Portugal. Featured on our cover this issue, João Caetano has had a particularly exciting journey in his musical career, and shares with us some of the highlights so far, as well as the interesting new solo and collaborative projects he is currently working on.
We also feature actor Zach Wyatt, who grew up in Macau and is starring in two new TV releases this year, Karen Pirie on ITV and The Witcher: Blood Origin on Netflix.
Lots happening on the arts scene this month, starting with the extensive new exhibition by Leo Yuen entitled 5 a.m currently taking place at GalaxyArt in Galaxy Macau. We also meet some of the artists involved in creating the beautiful lanterns on display around Grand Lisboa Palace as part of their Celebration of Art & Culture – Artistic Lantern Festival. And in Cinema we check out the new animated film Mui by John Wong, which was the grand winner of the 1st Macao Documentary Film Competition last month.
We also preview the upcoming Macao Fashion Festival, and meet the talented Carolina Esposito, who graciously shows us her around her stylish new home overlooking Hac Sa beach.
Finally, this issue, we visit Morrison Chapel where locals and expats gathered recently to reflect on the life of Queen Elizabeth II and sign a condolence book organised by the British Consulate General in Hong Kong.
Enjoy these Autumn days, and as always, Happy Reading!
