It goes without saying that almost all women have or believe they have cellulite! Indeed, nearly eight out of 10 women are affected by this certainly undesirable condition. Often considered a normal manifestation of obesity, cellulite appears mainly after puberty and in obese women, but can be found across all age groups and in both genders.
This is because cellulite is a very common dermatological alteration, so despair not, because you are not alone! Cellulite causes the skin to acquire an orange peel or mattress-like appearance as a result of blood and lymphatic disturbances which cause lesions in the connective tissue, resulting in changes in the body fat and the microcirculation. It is considered a degenerative phenomenon that, as some of us know all too well, provokes alterations to the lowermost layer of the skin producing irregular undulations on the overlying affected areas. The good news is that, like any other condition, there are steps and procedures we can use to prevent the appearance and aggravation of cellulite.
Before starting any treatment, the first and most important step, like in any diagnosis, is to analyze the underlying reasons that cause cellulite. These can be:
• Genetics – unfortunately, for someone whose medical family history includes cellulite, the chances of it being passed on through the genetic code are very high.
• Hormonal – contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy, which involves estrogen and progesterone and therefore cause fluid retention and swelling may originate or worsen the condition.
• Circulatory problems – fats that are retained in the cells due to circulatory insufficiency will noticeably contribute to cellulite. For the same reason, avoid staying too long in the same position.
• Poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle – sedentary people tend to accumulate more localized fat, making cellulite appear and develop.
If it is caused by genetics, cellulite may be really hard to treat, but with a healthy diet, plenty of physical exercise and sound water consumption, the appearance of your skin will improve significantly. Drainage massages are also an excellent ally in the fight against cellulite.
Regardless of treatment, always remember that, in the end, the most effective prescription is to love yourself!
