Healthy is the new sexy, and it’s a trend that no one can stop. Daily HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), detox retreats, wellness seminars, green juicers and superfoods are rising stars of modern living. So to make sure you stay in the loop, let’s talk about superfoods!
Superfoods are foods that are notably higher in nutrients compared to other foods. They are filled with essential vitamins and minerals along with dozens of powerful antioxidants, flavonoids, trace minerals, enzymes and compounds that promote overall health.
Health comes from the inside, so along with a positive mindset, giving your body the wholesome foods it needs is essential for your healthy lifestyle. Superfoods compliment your diet with more nutrients, flavors and creativity, and can make staying healthy fun.
Maca
Maca is a radish-like root that has been used over the ages for its nutritional and herbal qualities. Coming from Peru, once harvested, the maca root is traditionally dried, then powdered. As an adaptogen, especially known for hormone balancing, maca can provide more energy if it is needed, but if it is not, it will not cause overstimulation.
Cacao
Cacao is the raw, natural source of chocolate. Raw cacao is one of Nature’s most powerful superfoods due to its high mineral content and wealth of antioxidants. It is also known to be one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium and a good source of dietary fiber. It gives you energy and tastes absolutely delicious.
Spirulina
Spirulina is a freshwater micro-vegetable that has been consumed for thousands of years by many cultures. Besides being densely packed with vitamins, spirulina is one of the best sources of protein in the world, containing about 60% protein, which is five times easier to digest than that of meat or soy, making it one of the world’s most perfect foods.
Chia seeds
Chia seeds used to be a staple food source among the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans, who used them to increase strength and maintain stamina during long journeys. Having a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, chia seeds help to balance the ratio of EFSs (Essential Fatty Acids) within our naturally high omega-6 diet. A tremendous source of fiber, a single chia seed can also absorb about nine times its weight in water, turning into a thickening gel.
