Renowned storytellers, poets, illustrators, photographers and musicians all converged on the city last month for the 14th edition of The Script Road – Macau Literary Festival, offering the public a chance to engage and introspect on a range of topics through a variety of artistic expressions. Our cover story this issue presents some of the highlights from this eclectic festival of spoken and written words.

Acclaimed photojournalist Chris Stowers arrived in town just before the Literary Festival to launch his new book Shoot, Ask… and Run! at the Portuguese Bookshop. We spoke with him after the session about some of his amazing adventures behind the lens.

In the world of arts, we check out the solo exhibition of Alice Im, Dreamscape Macao. Held at The Parisian Macao, the exhibition was part of the Ephemera – Women Narratives in Contemporary Images Exhibition Series – the annual program of the Macau Art For All Society (AFA). Then we head over to Art Basel Hong Kong to meet Shin Min, represented by P21 (Seoul), the inaugural winner of the MGM Discoveries Art Prize.
We discover more creativity at local store Leather Angel, where the talented KK creates beautiful handmade products with passion and patience. We also check out the latest collection from designer duo Venus Tou and Ophelia Vong under their No.42 label, entitled 4.2% of the Ocean.

In Gourmet, we meet up with Chef Anthony Ho, the new Executive Chinese Chef at Michelin starred Zi Yat Heen restaurant at Four Seasons Macao. And speaking of Michelin Stars, the 2025 MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong & Macau was unveiled recently with some exciting new entries, so read about them in these pages.

This issue’s Home Affairs section also features a culinary couple, Chef Denver Govender and his lovely wife Vanessa, along with their gorgeous daughter Aria. Together they run Aria by Chef D, the only South African restaurant in town.

Finally, we head over to Hong Kong to enjoy Stories of the Hong Kong Portuguese an exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of History (HKHM). While the story of the Portuguese in Macau is very well-known, this exhibition offers a fascinating insight into how this lesser-known community has enriched the city of Hong Kong over the past century.
Make sure you check out all our great opinion columns too. This issue we welcome our new wellness columnist Ganaa Avila who offers great advice on how to relax and achieve balance in our lives.
Last but certainly not least, with this issue we celebrate our 18th anniversary. It’s been an amazing journey covering all the goings on in this great city of ours for the past 18 years.
Thanks for all your support and we look forward to many more years of telling Macau’s stories!
Happy Reading!
