Fashion trends always return after some time. And this time it’s the turn for flares! Flares are just about the most exciting thing to happen to denim since the advent of skinny jeans, especially for girls who do not have long thin legs.
Flares are so “HOT” now that you can see them on every fashion guru and “it” girl from Fall/Winter 2015 to Spring/Summer 2016 fashion weeks.
The key to nailing the 2016 iteration is to give them a modern twist:
1. Hem your jeans for the shoes you plan to wear. These jeans hit at the perfect spot for chunky heels. You can wear flares with flats, but a pair of comfy chunky sandals, clogs, wedges, flatforms/platforms or heels of any kind will make your legs look a mile long.
2. Choose mid to high-waisted flares to make the look even more retro, and more importantly, give you visually longer legs.
3. Match them with self-tie silk blouses, a striped top, shirt, etc. I strongly recommend off-the-shoulder tops to show off your neckline and sexy collarbones.
4. Only wear flats with cropped flares, unless you have supermodel long legs. The perfect length is right above the ankle.
5. When wearing cropped flares, there is basically no restriction for shoes; Flats, mules, sneakers, lace-up heels, you name it. I recommend lace-ups or pointed heels for an office casual look.
6. A frayed hem is the only amount of distressing you want with this style of jeans. I literally just cut my old flared jeans short and make the frayed hems at home.
