Chinese New Year Style

It is the season for gatherings and celebrations again, and you may be getting a headache trying to choose the right dress.  Or perhaps you simply do not have enough outfits to avoiding repeating your look for all the events that you are going to attend.  So here are three styling ideas featuring classic, must-have items that will never be “out”, and for sure you will have at least one or two of them in your closet already.

1. For all the black tie and formal events, a one-piece dress or jumpsuit is the safest way to go. The most basic dresses that you should have in your closet are:

– LBD – I don’t need to emphasize the importance of the Little Black Dress and I’m sure most of you have several in different cuts and lengths already.  To avoid a dull look, remember to match it with a pair of sharp coloured heels and bold accessories.

• Heroine red dress – this is my absolute favorite! I bought more than five red dresses and jumpsuits last year. I like to match them with gold or leopard pattern items to give the total look that extra glamorous and luxurious feeling. Cat eye make up with hot red lips make you look even more feminine and seductive. This look is especially popular for Chinese New Year banquets as Chinese love red.

• Goddess white dress – this look may be more suitable for spring/summer, however, you can still pull it off with lots of bling accessories.

2. Velvet is the “it” item this fall/winter, but it has a swelling effect so best to wear only a small amount of it unless you are the skinny type.  I personally love to wear jumpsuits as they are elegant and more special compared to the same color dress.  They can really show off the cosmopolitan and sophisticated side of a modern woman.

3. And if you are very trendy and bold, you may want to try the following styles:

• A tailor-made suit jacket with pants. The key here is the jacket or blazer must be a good fit. The bottoms can either be skinny/cigarette or wide leg pants. Wear nothing under the jacket but match it with a statement necklace if you are daring!

• A white shirt with a long skirt – this look will make you look elegant and special just like Sharon Stone at the Oscars in 1998. She wore a simple white GAP shirt with Vera Wong silk long skirt and enchanted everyone effortlessly.  (photo 2)

Have fun creating your unforgettable look this Chinese New Year and be the center of the attention whatever the occasion!
