Bikini, sarong, sunglasses, sunscreen (face and body) … You’re ready for your summer holidays by the beach or pool, but what about hair care sun products? Have you already planned to put some in your suitcase or bag this summer?

Taking care of your hair is just as important as taking care of your skin during summer because your hair also suffers damage and aggression under the hot sun or while swimming in the ocean or pool.
Your hair is made up of cells that produce keratin, a protein responsible for the strength and resistance of the hair and its impermeability to water. The outermost layer, called the cuticle, is very thin, full of keratin, and acts as a protective barrier for the hair, in addition to being responsible for the texture, shine and softness.
In addition to an aesthetic function, hair is also responsible for protecting the scalp and skin against solar radiation.
So what are the most aggressive factors and what can they do to your hair?
One of the main external agents is chlorine. This chemical substance is used to keep water clean and it ends up being absorbed by the hair strands. As it has a low pH, weakens the hair and can leave it more opaque and brittle.
Another destructive agent is UV rays which weaken the internal structure of the hair fibers and leave the cuticles dilated, making the hair drier, weaker and more porous. UVB rays are most responsible for damaging the keratin of hair, leaving the hair more fragile, while UVA rays oxidize and fade the color. The suns rays can degrade the structure of our hair, especially at this time of year, making them dry and brittle.
Salt sea water also dries out hair, especially hair that has been chemically treated, causing intense dehydration and making it dry, dull, and more susceptible to breakage.
It is very necessary to take extra care of your hair in summer, especially if you use color, keratin treatment, highlights or another chemical treatments. To help ensure the heath of your hair this summer, here are some tips to include in your daily hair routine.
1 – Wash your hair with fresh water after swimming in the sea or pool.
2 – Use hats and caps to protect your hair from the sun.
3 – Use cold water to wash your hair and body in summer and avoid using straighteners and hairdryers.
4 – After your holidays, book a visit to your hairdresser for hydration treatment and a shot of vitamin S (scissors). Cut the damaged ends and add more texture to your hair.
5 – Use hair care products like Davines to repair and nourish your hair.
