Staying Young

by

Hands up who doesn’t want to stay looking younger, longer?

In reality we would all love to have soft, firm ‘baby cheeks’ skin.  But with the onslaught of weather, pollution, lifestyle and the march of time, skin inevitably starts to droop, dry and wrinkle.

Over the years, many have tried all sorts of fixes like Botox injections, harsh chemical treatments and more invasive nips, tucks, and full-on face lifts – all expensive and sometimes unpleasant options.  Fortunately though, there are now more gentler ways to keep your skin looking young.

The Mandarin Oriental Macau recently hosted a Spa talk by the Australian rejuvenation guru Gaylia Kristensen who introduced her all natural products with anti-ageing benefits.

Gaylia and her Danish husband Preben Kristensen veterans of over 25 years in the international cosmetics industry, working predominantly in Europe and Australia.  They decided to retire early, but not one for slowing down Gaylia developed a keen interest in the natural products that are abundant in her home country.  When visiting her mother in Noosa, Queensland, the harsh hot weather was drying her skin to a crisp, and the thick oily European creams that she was using just seemed to drip right off.

It was then that Gaylia describes her ‘light bulb moment’.  Aware of the new molecular polypeptide and protein technologies coming out of Europe that work at a deep cellular level, she began to wonder how this could be developed using purely natural products.

After a lot of hard work and perseverance, the Kristensens created what they describe as their “state of the art, natural molecular product in one jar” with its “Noosa fragrance” of soft orange blossom with coconut and vanilla.

The ambassadors of ultimate quality, the Spa at Mandarin Oriental invited Gaylia to feature their products in London, Prague, Hong Kong and now Macau.  The Mandarin Oriental’s 90-minute Utopia Advanced Anti-Ageing Facial Treatment using Gaylia’s products has since won the prestigious Spa China Award for ‘Facial of the Year 2012’.  The Utopia Facial Treatment and product line has also been nominated for three Asia Spa Awards in 2013 – ‘Spa Treatment of the Year’, ‘Spa Product Line of the Year’ and ‘Spa Personality of the Year’.

Gaylia explains that stress used to be more in the body, but today’s stress is more mental, and in the head, neck, face, shoulders and hands.  This is where the Utopia Facial focuses.  Starting with a deep cleansing and exfoliation, the treatment continues with a lifting, toning massage using Gaylia’s Passion Oil, a vitamin E based oil using essential oils from avocado, almonds, macadamia and olive oil to rescue dry, thirsty skin.  This is followed by a plant collagen infusion facial mask to stimulate collagen and elastin production, creating instant lifting, firming and hydration of the skin and overall sense of rejuvenation.

And the proof is in the pudding as they say.  Studies have shown a reduction of wrinkles and expression lines by up to 63 percent in 30 days, and an increase in skin suppleness and firmness up to 40 percent in only 28 days.
Of course, like all skin treatments, this is not an instant fix; it’s a long term solution made especially easy because it involves using just one cream, depending on one’s age group.  For 20s to 40s, ongoing care is one of prevention – the ‘Dream cream’.  For the 40+ age group it’s about renovation – the ‘Deluxe cream’.  Applied at night, the Gaylia creams rehydrate, plump and volumize overnight while you sleep.

Gaylia’s newest ‘baby’ is her SILK luxury hand treatment incorporating pure silk proteins and amino acids from Japan.  Like the cream, it has a ‘quick dry down’, so no more greasy fingers on one’s keyboard, it tightens and firms hands, and contains plant and marine collagen to strengthen the nails.

The Utopia Advanced Anti-Ageing facial is exclusively at the Mandarin Oriental Macau, and apart from being a superb and super-relaxing facial with great results, you can also luxuriate just being in their gorgeous Spa.  A great New Year’s resolution so go treat yourself!
