It’s good news for local gastronomes as Macau receives even more Michelin Stars in the latest edition of the culinary guidebook “Michelin Guide to Hong Kong & Macau 2014”, 11 restaurants in total, up from seven in the 2013 guide.
At the top end of the scale, renowned French chef Joël Robuchon’s Robuchon au Dôme at Grand Lisboa maintained its three-star rating. Chef Robuchon’s Hong Kong restaurant L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon also kept its three-star rating.
In an exciting development, Chinese restaurant The Eight also received a three-star rating, placing both of Macau’s top ranked restaurants at Grand Lisboa.
At the two-star level both Golden Flower at Wynn Macau and Zi Yat Heen at The Four Seasons Macao remain.
And at the one star level, there are four new entries: Jade Dragon at City of Dreams, The Kitchen at Grand Lisboa, King at AIA Tower, and The Golden Peacock at the Venetian.
King is the only Michelin starred restaurant in Macau not located in a casino-hotel, and The Golden Peacock is one of only nine Indian restaurants worldwide currently starred by Michelin, and the only one in Asia.
The other one-starred restaurants in this year’s guide are The Tasting Room at City of Dreams, Tim’s Kitchen at Hotel Lisboa and Wing Lei at Wynn Macau.
Michelin has five criteria for awarding stars: quality of products, the mastering of flavours, mastering of cooking, personality of the cuisine, value for money and consistency of what the restaurant offers to its customers both throughout the menu and the year.
Altogether, the “Michelin Guide Hong Kong & Macau 2014” awarded 73 establishments in Hong Kong and Macau with one or more Michelin stars: seven three-stars, 15 two-stars, 51 one-stars, and 78 Bib Gourmands.
