Star Chefs

by
In the lead up to Christmas last month, Sofitel Star Chefs Asian Tour 2014, the largest culinary hotel week was held at the Sofitel Guangzhou Sunrich, located in the city’s vibrant Tianhe district.

Celebrating Sofitel’s 50th anniversary, as well as 50 years of Sino-French relations, the week-long program featured 50 top international chefs.  It also showcased over 70 individual events ranging from cooking demonstrations with leading culinary professionals, bio diversity product introductions and organic farm visits, to 12 newly created afternoon high teas, special dinners with notable chefs, an all female chef cast for a special dining experience, a cook off competition with mystery box ingredients and an amazing 13-course dinner prepared by six Michelin Chefs totaling 13 Michelin Stars around one table.

The week’s final event, the Good Food and Wine Show, included more than 100 wines to sample from China’s 12 top international wine distributors, a barista competition, cocktail demonstrations, food samplings, and master class introductions.

An entertaining highlight was a cook-off between male and female teams of 12 international chefs together with two winners from the ‘Are You A Star Chef’ competition, in front of an audience of over 800.  After three rounds of intense competition, the female chefs’ team finally won and all the guests all enjoyed the fun, taste, and excitement of the evening.

Part of the proceeds from Sofitel Star Chefs Asian Tour 2014 were donated to the Accor initiative: Stay For Brightness program under the Orbis Charity organization, which provides medical services as well as an eye care program restoring eye site in children and the elderly for the underprivileged in difficult to reach regions in China and the world.
