Macau’s only dedicated wine festival Macau Wine & Dine Festival 2014 returns this month from the 20th to the 23rd, after a very successful first edition last year.  As with last year, the festival will be held at the picturesque outdoor lagoon of the Venetian Macao, and will coincide with the Venetian’s annual Carnevale festivities.

Co-organised by the Wine Society of Macau and DOC DMC Macau & Hong Kong, and sponsored by the Venetian Macao, the festival aims to bring the best wines and foods to the palates of vistors, in a relaxed and entertainment-filled outdoor environment.

The inaugural edition featured 20 exhibitors and 12 wine school lecturers, and this year the festival has grown to 30 booths presenting more than 100 internationally renowned products.  The organisers are expecting 20,000 visitors over the four days.

The educational side of the event will include talks by top presenters and lecturers in the wine industry. Various classes ranging from entry level classes to master classes will explore wine pairings, wine appreciation, wine brewing techniques, and lots more.

There will also be a professionals-only tasting premier designed to connect wine companies that don’t currently have distribution in Macau, with wine industry professionals on this region.

Entrance to the festival is free, and to enjoy all that is on offer, visitors can exchange vouchers for food, wine and even the wine courses.  Single vouchers for one drink or one portion of food cost MOP10.  A wine pass valued at MOP100 can also be purchased and includes a book of 10 single vouchers, a wine glass and wine holder, and promotional booklets with discount offers for wine and local restaurants.

Co-organisers of the event, the Wine Society of Macau, was established in 1995 and currently has a membership of over 200 wine connoisseurs.  It organises regular tastings of wines from all regions in order to foster the appreciation and moderate consumption of wine in Macau.   In organising the Macau Wine and Dine Festival, it hopes to continue to promote wine culture and wine education in Macau and to elevate the status of Macau as a wine city in Asia.

Supported by the Macau Government Tourist Office, the Venetian Macao’s third annual Italian-themed Carnevale is a month-long event throughout April to May, offering a wide range of fun entertainment, activities and food.
