Beginning the new year with a bang, world famous nightclub brand Pacha celebrated its Macau grand opening with two unforgettable weekend parties at Studio City in January.
Set to make its mark as the first mega-club of its kind in the region, Pacha Macau is equipped with the capacity to host 3,000 partygoers, and boasts state-of-the-art audio/visual facilities including digital mapping and specialized lighting systems and a 1,000-square-foot dance floor. Other unique features include four private luxury KTV VIP suites and a spacious outdoor patio.
On the night of the grand opening, over 2,000 guests were invited to its Balearic themed mega-party, including Hong Kong and Macau partygoers as well as those flown in especially for the occasion from New York and Ibiza.
The party started with the Pacha Cherry cake-cutting ceremony, hosted by Eddie Dean, Pacha NYC President & CEO and Managing Director for Pacha Macau, and Marta Planells Lucendo, the Pacha Franchise Director. Other prominent guests including JD Clayton, Property President Studio City and Francisco Ferrer, Managing Director Pacha Ibiza then celebrated the opening with a champagne toast.
With the official opening to the public at midnight, the party crowd got bigger and bigger, and award-winning DJ Erick Morillo’s electrifying music brought the atmosphere of the nightclub to a euphoric height.
“Pacha is the finest nightclub brand in the world, with a commitment to excellence. Pacha Macau, without a doubt, will be the most amazing nightclub entertainment experience Macau has to offer,” said Mr. Dean.
Pacha was founded in 1967 in the beach town of Sitges by Ricardo Urgell, who remains head of the Pacha Group. Urgell opened the Ibiza branch in 1973. During his nine years of working there, DJ Erick Morillo earned a reputation as Pacha/Ibiza’s most popular DJ. In an interview given to a monthly publication in his home state New Jersey, Mr. Dean noted: “The relationship Erick has with clubs and dance-music fanatics around the world is amazing, and his work as a producer is impeccable.”
In 2001, Dean hired Morillo to DJ at an intimate New York club Dean owned called Discotheque. Later they became partners and Morillo introduced Dean to Ricardo Urgell, and the pair licensed the rights to open Pacha clubs in North America. Pacha NYC opened in 2005 and today Pacha has venues in major cities across the globe including Dubai, Buenos Aires, Sydney and now, in Macau, as well as Ibiza and New York of course.
At the grand opening of Pacha Macau, Mr. Dean commented: “We are thrilled by the response and feedback from guests. It’s long been a dream of mine to bring Pacha to Macau, so to see everyone enjoying themselves at the Grand Opening Special event was amazing and a reminder of why we are here – to offer the best nightlife experiences to partygoers in Asia with that unique Pacha flare and spirit. This is just the beginning of many more incredible parties to come!”
Judging from the number of people who came to the opening, the excitement is not one-sided. Most of the local partygoers CLOSER spoke to said they were impressed by the size and facilities of the venue.
“I can see my old and new Macau pals are all here tonight! And yet there is still space for us to dance and breathe! This place is just enormous!” one French expat said.
The ambitious Pacha project is determined to change Macau’s nightlife forever with its first venture into Greater China. As stated on the front page of its official website, “Macau will never be the same.” We agree!
