As a Forbes Five Star restaurant, Wynn Macau’s Il Teatro has always been a formidable force on the Macau culinary scene. To mark its 11th anniversary, the restaurant has revamped its interior design and added a series of new dishes to its menu, aiming to introduce guests to an even more authentic Italian culinary experience.
On entering the ground floor lift lobby, guests are greeted by an overscaled stone table that features a unique display of stone architectural artifacts, treasures and crystal glass sphere bubbles, evoking an archaeological dig in a lost underwater city.
Arriving in the main restaurant, the restaurant continues the underwater theme in a light & bright contemporary interior. The bright stripes on the walls represent sunrays passing and dissipating through water, creating vibrant colours surrounded by capiz shell bubbles. As the lights from the performance lake reflect around the space, the restaurant comes alive with vivid excitement, returning to a serene and tranquil environment between shows. The lake’s spectacular display of water, music, fire and light captivates guests on every visit, a feast for the eyes that perfectly complements the tantalizing new menu.
The a-la carte menu includes an assortment of exceptional new dishes, from Chicken Saltimbocca in a chicken jus and Veal Parrmigiana featuring Fassone Mild-fed veal chop, to a selection of the ocean’s finest in a seafood platter, with Boston lobster, New Zealand clams and Canadian mussels.
But the menu of an outstanding Italian restaurant is never complete without a dish full of cheese. The Four Cheese Ravioli offers a blend of ricotta, mascarpone, Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino Romano in a Marsala glaze. In fact, this dish is the brainchild of Il Teatro’s new Chef de Cuisine Nicholas Olivas. The pride of Chef Olivas’ repertoire, the recipe for this handmade ravioli has been the work of over a decade.
The dish is so rich in cheese that the milky, delicate aroma rush to your nose even before the dish is placed in front of you.
The mix and match of the cheese, as well as the black vinegar and the marsala glaze, create even more combinations that surprise you with every bite you take.
Of course, an Italian meal cannot end without a delicate dessert. On the new menu of Il Teatro, one of the must-try sweet dishes is Warm Apple Fritters served alongside Tahitian vanilla ice cream. It might sound heavy, but the light-tasting vanilla ice cream actually balances well with the relatively rich apple fritters (which also have cinnamon, vanilla, citrus zests and raisin inside) and the honey that comes with it.
Another dessert on the new menu is the Sicilian pistachio and vanilla panna cotta. If you think this is just an ordinary panna cotta, wait until you dig your spoon deep into it and put it into your mouth. The complexity, smoothness and balance between sweet and sour is beyond your imagination, giving a wonderful ending to a night of superb culinary performances.
