After a ten-year hiatus, the Miss Macau pageant returned to the city, with a glamorous and entertaining show at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena on August 13, sponsored by Suncity Group.
The 12 finalists for this year’s event were Nora Gu, Crystal Wong, Emily Chan, Emily Yau, Bobo Leung, Romi Wang, Kayii Lei, Jocelina Law, Dinelle Wong, Yammie Loi, Angelica Da Conceicao Carvalhosa, and Amber Ng, competing under this year’s theme of “celebrating the genuine Macau.”
From the preliminary selection and shortlisting, to the grand final competition, the finalists worked very hard, receiving extensive professional training along the way. On the night, they were all ready to present their best performance on the grand final stage to the audience and judges, and to demonstrate their poise, confidence, and elegance, as well as individual talents.
In the end, there could only be one winner, with Bobo Leung, candidate No. 5, crowned Miss Macau 2019. She also won the titles of Miss Photogenic and Miss Friendship. Emily Yau, candidate No. 4, won the First Runner-up, and Dinelle Wong, candidate No. 9 won the Second Runner-up.
All the candidates impressed the judges with their witty conversations with the emcee and judges, and versatile talent shows presenting skills in music, chess, calligraphy and painting, Chinese Kungfu and dance, as well as the fashion show featuring local tourist attractions. When asked about which district in Macau is the best for “slash youth” in the Q&A round, Bobo Leung, the crowned champion candidate No. 5 impressed the audience and judges with her smart remarks. In the talent show round, Bobo Leung gave a fine example of the beauty and intelligence of the new Miss Macau.
Presenting the awards to the winning candidates were Laura Li, President of the Organizing Committee for Miss Macau 2019 and winner of Miss Macau 2009, Sarah Leyshan, First Runner-Up of Miss Macau 2009, and Joyce Huang, Second Runner-up of Miss Macau 2009. The previous winners encouraged the newly crowned ladies to represent Macau professionally and to promote the unique charm of Macau to the world.
“It’s so amazing and a great honor, as both Miss Macau 2009 and President of organizing committee, to crown the new Miss Macau 2019,” says Laura Li. “As a world center of tourism and leisure, I believe Macau should have a representative to show the true beauty of our city as well as the Macau people. I hope the newly-crowned Miss Macau can take on the responsibility of promoting Macau’s city image, and to show the world the overall beauty of Macau.”
