The Mango Season

by
The weather is starting to warm up finally and a great way to beat the heat is with some deliciously sweet and refreshing fruits.

The Venetian Macao’s one Michelin star Indian restaurant, The Golden Peacock will host a new “Mango Mantra” special promotion between May 20 and June 5, showcasing fresh imported Indian alphonso mangoes, which are dubbed "the king of mangoes"  for their rich aroma and sweet taste.

Justin Paul, Senior Chef of The Golden Peacock, says that the alphonso mangoes come into season between May and June. In order to prepare for this special menu, his restaurant is importing cases of mango from India each day.

The special a-la-carte menu features 19 courses of appetizers, soups, main courses and desserts using this delicacy.  Chef Justin hopes that ‘Mango Mantra’ can be like a story book from which guests can get to know this ‘sacred’ fruit from India, taking them on a gourmet journey over several courses.

Highlights of the special menu include Tandoori Quilon Tiger Prawn, a king prawn appetiser served with a mango cilantro relish and spicy pickled onions. One bite of the prawn and you can already taste several different spices and flavours thanks to the well-balanced sauce that combines mango, cilantro and ginger. Although it is a bit hot, the level of spiciness is well managed so as not to explode your taste buds.

Another highlight of the menu is Amras Ki Champ, cooked with Australian lamb chops, fresh mango, fresh cream and cashew nuts. The flavour of the lamb really pops out the moment you put it inside your mouth.  There is a pudding-like cake under the lamb made of spinach – light and refreshing it is really an excellent match.

A  great meal should always end with some brilliant desserts, which brings us to the Mango Mango Mango, a decadent mango dessert featuring pistachios, almonds, cardamom, thick organic milk and saffron. Right from the start, the texture of the first dessert, which is made of rice and sago and has a very clean taste, like pudding.  Then the middle ice-cream-like dessert is made of reduced milk and mango mash that has a strong milk flavour and is very sweet. Finally, the last dish is made from reduced milk and is the sweetest of the three, giving your sweet tooth a happy ending.

The Mango Mantra promotion is only available for dinner. Mango lovers should not miss this!
