“Dock In Absolute” is the classic jazz rock band opening Jazz in May, an event that starts on Saturday, May 12, bringing to the alternative space LMA, on Coronel Mesquita Avenue, three more bands on the following weekends. The French chamber jazz trio “3Elements” will perform two nights in a row, on 18 and 19 May. ‘Brass bands' “Le Syndicat Du Chrome” and “Groupe Electrogene Fanfare Club” will follow on 25 May.
The Luxembourg jazz trio "Dock In Absolute" (DIA) will perform on Saturday, May 12, kicking off the "Jazz in May" event at LMA (Live Music Association). The trio, composer and pianist Jean-Philippe Koch, David Kintziger on bass, and Michel Mootz on drums, combine different styles of progressive, classic and rock 'jazz'. Their repertoire also includes compositions by the band and by Jean-Philippe Koch.
The trio stood out with their "new approach to jazz, which allowed them to cross borders", having already performed their music at various festivals, including the Tokyo Jazz Festival, the Hong Kong International Jazz Festival, as well as right next door in Zhuhai at the Beishan International Jazz Festival in 2015.
The band will now play in Macau after two concerts in Hong Kong, which will take place on 10 and 11 May, part of the "Le French May Festival" program.
The Jazz in May program, which takes advantage of bands playing in neighbouring regions, reflects what is happening around the world today, with the resurgence of the popularity of piano trios and the development of jazz resulting from this movement over the decades.
Jazz critic Rob Adams wrote in “The Herald” newspaper on the performance of “Dock In Absolute” at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in 2017: "Dock In Absolute differs from other jazz trios in that it uses bass rather than bass. It also favours hybrid classic-rock. Pianist Jean Philippe Koch is the group's main composer, but shares the spotlight with guitarist David Kintziger and well-known drummer Michel Meis”.
The trio from France, "3Elements", performs two nights in a row, on 18 and 19 May, also at 10 pm, after playing in Hong Kong on the night of 17 May. On 25 May, at the same time, Afro-funk-brass band "Le Syndicat Du Chrome" and "Groupe Electrogene Fanfare Club", wind and percussion instrument bands, who have played at LMA before, will be preforming.
3Elements: guitar, piano and saxophone trio
"3Elements", a trio established in France, is an original "chamber jazz" project, an acoustic jazz genre characterized by improvised compositions and interpretations.
The trio led by Michael Felberbaum, born in Rome, brings together a set of instruments, guitar, piano and saxophone, played in "trialogue" by three musicians who excel in rhythm and improvisation, performing compositions by Michael Felberbaum. Guitarist and composer Michael Felberbaum is known for the "synergy" he sets on stage, described by critics as a "tremendous" composer. He is joined by Frédéric Borey on the saxophone and Leonardo Montana on the piano.
Frédéric Borey is a French saxophonist who teaches jazz improvisation in music conservatories. Leonardo Montana was born in La Paz, to Colombian and English parents, ans grew up in Bahia, Brazil, and Guadeloupe, in the French West Indies. He has written opera librettos, and is described as "one of the most sought after jazz pianists in France."
