Flying High

by
From the middle of July, the Lisboeta Hotel, located on the southern end of Cotai, began revealing some of its facilities to the public, including the GoAirborne Indoor SkyDiving, the “first indoor skydiving experience in Macau”, a 388-meter long, 60-meter high zipline called ZIPCITY, and a night market with snacks and other entertainment.

When fully operational, the Lisboeta will offer 820 guestrooms with three unique themes – Lisboeta, LINE FRIENDS presents CASA DE AMIGO and Maison L’Occitane.  It is also expected to open several cinemas – IMAX, MX4D and VIP screens managed by Emperor Cinemas – an indoor track for electric karting and an outdoor event space.

The approximately US$5 billion development is themed around two distinct visions of Macau: a retrospective one, with attractions and features related to Macau of the 1960s, and a futuristic one, where a possible future vision for the territory can be experienced.

The 12-storey Lisboeta features elements inspired by iconic local buildings, even displaying a replica of Oséo Acconci’s famous mosaic mural from the façade of the Hotel Estoril. Stanley Ho’s floating casino Macau Palace – which once appeared in the 1974 James Bond classic film The Man with the Golden Gun – has also been recreated, decorated with ornate Chinese carvings, wood mouldings and lanterns.  Eventually it will be surrounded by an artificial lake.  And ‘Old Macau Street’ includes elements of the Yat Yuen Canidrome or the old Jai-Alai hotel.

Meanwhile, the “Futuristic Zone” will include a futuristic themed shopping mall with retail shops, food court and other entertainment attractions, a glass roof canopy, an installation replica of Beijing’s famous “Bird Cage”, and an LED light display of Macau’s cityscape.

GoAirborne Indoor SkyDiving is the city’s first indoor skydiving facility, with a glass tunnel four meters in diameter and 15 meters high to simulate a free-fall skydiving experience. Offering an adventurous journey for first-time flyers as young as 4 years old to the most accomplished skydivers, visitors can experience the real sensation of free falling in a safe, controlled indoor environment guided by internationally certified tunnel instructors. There are various prices and packages for the attraction ranging from MOP799 to MOP58,000.

ZIPCITY, described as the first urban zip line in the Asia Pacific, is a 388-meter long, 60-meter high facility, connecting two towers and providing a panoramic view of Cotai while flying through the air.

These main attractions will be open from Thursday to Sunday, with GoAirborne and ZIPCITY operating from 2pm to 10pm, and the night market from 5pm to 10pm.  To celebrate its soft opening, ZIPCITY is offering Macau residents and Blue Card Holders a special deal of MOP350 for a solo zipline ride plus photo and video package.
