The Fitness and Wellness Centre at Mandarin Oriental, Macau is a hidden treasure, in a lovely spot overlooking the poolside and the picturesque harbor beyond. And now that an upgrade to the facilities has been completed, the team there is keen to show themselves off to those looking to fight the flab and get fit in preparation for the warmer weather ahead. Having recently lost weight and become more fitness-aware myself, I decided to go along and investigate.
For a first time user of the centre, guests are encouraged to begin their wellness programme with a fitness assessment. This involves obtaining a body composition analysis; stand on a scale-like machine while your fitness instructor assists you to input some personal vital statistics such as gender, age, height, and then hold two metal handles and stand still for about a minute while the machine makes its calculations. An A4 page print out of results comes from the printer connected nearby.
The detailed results cover body composition (protein, mineral, fat mass), muscle to fat analysis, obesity diagnosis, lean balance (broken down into right and left arm, right and left leg and trunk), body shape graph, nutritional evaluation, body balance and body strength. At the end, it gives an overall fitness score and recommendations for what areas to concentrate on improving.
The fitness instructor will discuss your goals with you to achieve optimum well being and tailor-make a programme to support you in reaching these goals.
Guests are then guided through their personalized training programme and their progress is carefully tracked. The centre is fitted out with a full line up of state-of-the-art Technogym equipment. There is also a heated 25-metre outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, and a steam room and sauna in the changing rooms to compliment your work-out.
To celebrate the revitalized fitness centre Mandarin Oriental is offering some great new monthly membership deals. For new members, a complimentary fitness assessment and one session of personal training is included in the first month of membership.
So if you’re thinking of getting fit in time for summer and want to do it in luxurious surroundings with caring professional instructors, consider heading down to the Mandarin Oriental, Macau.
