At the third edition of the Sands Macao Fashion Week (SMFW) in October, local fashion duo ALo Lo and Rainie Choi kicked off the event with a grand launch show for their brand AURALO ARTE at The Shoppes at Venetian.
The designers presented a total of 45 outfits at the Walk on Water Show, 25 of which are new pieces from their latest collection, with the rest being the most popular items selected from previous seasons.
“We hope our clients and guests of the show were able to see different aspects of our brand,” explains Rainie Choi.
Established in 2013 after Lo and Choi met while study a diploma in fashion at Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM), AURALO ARTE designs are trendy yet practical, conveying strong emotional content. Since their first spring/summer 2014 collection, AURALO ARTE has staged shows across Hong Kong, Taiwan and the rest of Asia, where they have also enjoyed growing sales.
The brand is endorsed and worn by local celebrities, was nominated as the most valuable brand of 2016 (Macao) at the Fashion Asia Awards, and was the designated clothing brand of Miss International Macau 2016-2018. Targeting young women aged 25 to 40, AURALO ARTE offers romantic and feminine items.
“You can see the elements of ruffles and laces in our design, and we tend to use light-weight fabric,” says Choi.
For the 2020 spring/summer ready-to-wear collection, the designers took inspiration from a misty forest, and creation centered on the theme of ‘forest elves’.
“Grey tones are used to build up the atmosphere of an enchanting fairyland, such as greyish blue, beige and greyish green — commonly found colours in the forest,” Choi explains.
The young brand has been actively exploring unique designs, developing new fabrics and creating special colours. The duo also highlighted their three-dimensional tailoring.
“We do not make flat garment patterns, but three-dimensional ones. People will find it difficult to copy our designs,” Choi jokes.
The show is the label’s first-time participation in SMFW, created to highlight Sands Shoppes Macao as a leading retail destination for fashion, to showcase its many luxury and lifestyle brands, and promote local design talent. The two CPTTM alumni expressed their gratitude after the show.
“As you can see, the Walk on Water show is so beautiful and glamourous, like a hanging garden. It’s been our dream to showcase our designs on this catwalk since we saw it at the first SMFW. We are happy to be recommended by the CPTTM to debut at the Walk on Water Show this year. We are very grateful for everything,” says ALo Lo.
