The latest exciting entertainment spectacular has just been unveiled to Macau audiences with Studio City presenting the all new Elekron by Stufish. Just days before the show’s debut, CLOSER spoke with Creative Producer Chris Hynes about what we can expect.
“Elekron means ‘Shining Light’ and the story is all about finding electric power in a post-apolcalyptic world. It’s a fantasy world, not all doom and gloom, a story of survival and a story of hope, and very positive,” Chris explains.
The story centres around a nomadic tribe made up of five different groups, each with a different role to play.
“They’ve found each other along the way and become like a bit of a dysfunctional family,” says Chris. “They are trying to find electric power, and they can harness electric forces from the skies using these fast buggies. And a bit like El Dorado, there is a mythical power station in the desert called Elekron, which they go in search of.”
The show has been two and half years in the making, and features a cast of more than 40 from 12 different countries, as well as a crew of 80, and importantly around 70 different electric vehicles of all shapes and sizes.
“The whole thing is really groundbreaking,” comments Chris. “It’s the first in-door, all-electric vehicle stunt show, and in a theatrical setting. We’ve got sports cars, buggies, FMX bikes, electric skateboards, electric surfboards…
everything we have is electric. There is not a single petrol vehicle in the show. That in itself makes it unique and also challenging.”
Many of the vehicles are bespoke, designed especially for the show, while some of the bigger cars, like the 350Z, incorporate some electric vehicle technology from the well-known Tesla company.
Joining the electric vehicles will be other talented performers including parkour runners, aerialists and of course daredevil drivers and riders. The 75-minute show takes place at the Studio City Event Centre, meaning the audience will be very close to the action.
“I know there will be people watching this show with their heart in their mouth because these guys and girls do things on one, two, three or four wheels that challenge gravity and common-sense. All things that you shouldn’t try at home,” commented chief marketing and brand officer of Melco Resorts and Entertainment, Frederic Winckler at a press preview event last year.
The show is produced in collaboration with the entertainment company Stufish who have organized events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, and created stage designs for stars including Elton John, Madonna, Jay-Z, U2, The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.
“This is a first for us, it really pushes the envelope. We’ve created a narrative, a story, not just a serious of random stunts, there’s another layer to it,” notes Chris Hynes. “Oh and did I mention we have fire, lots of real fire? We have a porsche that we set on fire!”
