In this edition, I bring you some up-cycling tips and DIY ideas for turning what you thought was a mistake-of-a-purchase, into your next fave piece, in collaboration with Olivia of The Closeteur. The best part is, you don’t have to worry about running into someone with the same thing on! For this project, I have to give a big shout-out to Michelle Lee. She passed down an unworn scarf, and then I, in return, used it to be the main component to create these chokers for our besties #twinning moment.
1. Fold the scarf diagonally, and then using a pair of sharp scissors, cut it across the fold.
2. Measure and decide how wide the choker should be, keeping in mind the main piece you want to assemble onto the necklace.
3. After you fold down the scarf, (play around to get the best of the pattern, inside or out, you decide.) and iron down.
4. Add a few stitches to secure it down. If you are crafty with a sewing machine, sew along the edge.
5. Then, we took out our box of “broken bits and pieces” and decided to break apart a necklace. We decided on a pearl and rhinestone cross for Hayley and a chain from a discarded bracelet from Olivia.
A pair of pliers and a steady hand is needed to break the part from the original. Use a needle and thread, or a hot glue gun if you need a quick fix. That’s it. Besties necklaces!
