Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau celebrates its new hotel brand with curated Boa Vida experiences for guests, as more than just a hotel, but also an artistic and cultural enclave
Earlier this year, one of the city’s most iconic hotels unveiled its new chapter as Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, the first Artyzen branded hotel under the wings of Artyzen Hospitality Group, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed conglomerate Shun Tak Holdings. Established in 1984, the hotel has been a charm in the city, witnessing the rapid development of the city and evolution of its tourism industry, contributing to creating great memories for many, and remaining extremely popular and loved by locals and Macau visitors. Under its new brand, Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau is pursuing its mission to bring ‘Boa Vida’ to Life, with Art, Culture, and Heritage at its core, welcoming all guests to celebrate the good things in life!
“There have been many impactful changes to the hotel over the years, such as the addition of the Resort in the year 2000, and new restaurants and bars in the years thereafter,” says Rutger Verschuren, Area Vice President, Macau Operations of Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau. “It was renamed as ‘Grand Lapa, Macau’ in 2009. The name ‘Lapa’ refers to one of the most distinguished neighbourhoods in the heart of Lisbon where aristocratic families and celebrities live surrounded by lawns in grand style. Upon completion of Grand Lapa’s renovation in 2020, and considering the direction in which we wanted the hotel to develop, we felt that the hotel was the right fit to be the first Artyzen branded hotel.”
“We have embarked this year on our rebranding journey. Guests will experience that rebranding is not merely a name change, but a development of the hotel’s DNA of offerings, by infusing more elements related to art and culture in guest’s touchpoints and experiences, and providing more impactful opportunities for guests to feel the authentic Macau, with its rich Portuguese past that has brought Macau its unique character,” adds Mr Verschuren.
With the hotel transforming into an artistic and cultural enclave, there are plenty of attractive offers for hotel guests to indulge in. Already this year, the hotel has hosted two successful Macau Wine & Dine events, International Yoga Day, a Boa Vida Weekend Market, and charity events to give back to the society. And currently, Fado Nights at Café Bela Vista is offering a tantalising range of Portuguese food for guests to savour, while enjoying traditional live Fado music. The promotion, in collaboration with Casa de Portugal, has proven to be very popular in town.
“We are proud to showcase this UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, which is a perfect bridge of Portuguese art, culture and cuisine, and shows the love of locals and tourists for this authentic Portuguese art form and cuisine,” comments the General Manager.
With the summer holidays arriving and international travel still significantly restricted, the hotel has launched Family Spa Staycation packages offering families a novel bonding opportunity, wherein parents and their children can visit the spa together for a treatment, and even enjoy a bubbly bath bomb in the spa Jacuzzi. The Summer Suite offer highlights choices to join the hotel’s in-house Arts & Cultural Adventure program, visiting the Celebrity Wax Museum or Science Museum as part of the new experiences to be bundled with the staycation.
As part of its strategic plan, the hotel is also introducing ExplorCations, where guests can enjoy professionally guided tours across town to explore more of Macau’s little secrets.
“We do have lots of activities in the pipeline including the mentioned walking tours to UNESCO sites, creative and fun art-jamming classes, art of dim-sum making, calligraphy-art, and much more. We are also currently working on the designs to bring back the former legendary Chinnery Ballroom in a contemporized yet classic design, which will house functions for 200 discerning guests by early 2022,” comments Rutger.
“Art and culture play a key role in all we do at Artyzen Grand Lapa, and in our view, art, in the widest meaning of the word, exists to express and create feelings of appreciation, taste and enjoyment, and enriching one’s soul. Expanding on this, we are promoting the concept of “Boa Vida”, which literally translated from Portuguese means, “Good Life”, which is the essence of all we do and why we are here: to bring the good things of life to our guests. It is our aim to champion this. We encourage our guests to appreciate good food, good wine, great health, family and friendship, which are all undeniably good things in life!”
Rutger observes that the tourism and hospitality industry in the city is gradually seeing signs of recovery, and that a new dynamic is emerging in the market, that is focusing less on the quantity of visitation and occupancy, and more on the quality of unique experiences.
“We notice that in the past, the market focused on quantity, and driving visitation numbers was perhaps the key indicator for most hotels. However nowadays, we see a change of expectations with increased insistence on overall quality and unique and even personal experiences. As such, I believe that Artyzen is very relevant to today’s market as we introduce a special journey that allows our guests to experience Macau’s profound art and cultural landscape heritage close up.”

“It’s part of our long-term strategy to make sure our guests love us for who we are and the memorable and quality experiences we deliver, so they will come back again and again. Macau’s vibrant art and culture are at the very heart of the Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau experience.”
