The best of classical music

by
Recognized by music lovers as the greatest chamber orchestra in the world, the Academy of St. Martin in The Fields (ASMF) will visit Macau in March, offering audiences a rare privilege to enjoy this unique concert, led by legendary conductor Sir Neville Marriner, the founder of the ensemble back in 1958.

The programme will open with two iconic pieces by Mozart, the superb Haffner Symphony and the majestic Piano Concerto No. 25 delivered by the skilful hands of Angela Hewitt, a master pianist who will be returning to Macau after her recital at the Macau Cultural Centre back in 2008. The concert will close to the sound of Bizet’s vibrant Symphony in C Major, a composition demanding the virtuosic performance that made the Academy’s name.

Renowned for its polished and refined sound, the Academy played for the first time in its namesake church in 1959 and has since been performing some 100 concerts around the world each year. With as many as 15 tours per season, the orchestra plays at the most prestigious venues across continents, from Europe and Asia to the Americas.

The ASMF is one of the most recorded ensembles in the world having released over 500 recordings to date. They received their first gold disc in 1969 after an acclaimed recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Most recently, in 2013, the ensemble reached the top of Billboard’s Classical Chart following a recording with their Music Director and master violinist Joshua Bell.

ASMF’s debut in Macau is a wonderful opportunity for audiences to experience some of the best musicians on the planet, an amazing group of professionals living for the sake of musical excellence.
