The 27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest will take place on September 5, 12, 19, 27 and October 1, with ten contesting teams brightening up the city’s skyline with spectacular fireworks.

Organized by Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO), the event is one of the city’s biggest attractions, bringing in many visitors willing to explore Macau while hoping to find the best spot to enjoy a night of world-class pyrotechnics. The event will be held on the sea front, next to Macau Tower, allowing viewers to watch the show from all around the Peninsula and Taipa.

While presenting this year’s programme, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes expressed her gratitude for the ardent support from many well-known firework companies from across the globe over the past 26 years, making the Macau International Fireworks Display Contest one of the most stunning events of the year and attracting visitors from everywhere to the city.

“To work in line with building Macau into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macau Government Tourist Office will continue to present more fascinating and diversified events for residents and visitors, combining different elements with tourism to attract visitors from around the world to experience Macau’s charm as a ‘city of events’,” she said.

Over the years, different outstanding pyrotechnic companies have come from around the world to join this renowned competition, and this time is no exception. The 2015 contenders come from Malaysia, Portugal, Finland, Taiwan, Korea, Italy, France, Austria, Australia and Mainland China.

Malaysia and Finland are new countries represented in the contest, while the companies from Italy and France will also stage their first performances in Macau. Overall, the teams bring an abundance of competitive experience and are ready to bring on a myriad of spectacular displays for both residents and visitors.

France and Austrian pyrotechnic artists will perform on September 27, the Mid-Autumn Festival and World Tourism Day, while teams from Australia and Mainland China will stage their firework displays on October 1, a night to celebrate China’s National Day.

Some of the teams have come to Macau for the contest before, and ranked amongst the top positions. Dancing Fireworks, from Mainland China, won second prize in 2013. The company is also experienced in creating firework shows for different mega events, including the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the opening ceremony of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

Grupo Luso Pirotecnia, from Portugal, has set up an office in Macau, and participated in the fireworks display for the celebration of the Macau SAR in 2008; as well as the Chinese New Year celebration in 2009. The company has participated in Macau’s contest three times, and made it to fourth place in the 19th edition of the fireworks display contest.

This year, MGTO has again requested all teams to choreograph their firework displays to both music and laser light projections, to enhance the audience’s experience with a more spectacular light and sound show. Spectators can watch a live broadcast of the firework shows on TDM – Macau TV Channel, with background music on TDM – Radio Macau’s Chinese Channel (FM 100.7) every evening of the competition.

Moreover, MGTO and CTM co-launched the “Macau International Fireworks Display Contest SMS Game” back in 2010. The game has gained enthusiastic feedback, with over 1,700 text messages received last year, and will continue to run this year.

MGTO is also accepting applications for the Trophy Design Contest, Photo Contest and Student Drawing Contest of the 27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest.
