A year of giving

by

2015 has been another busy year of community activities and staff development programs for Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG).  As one of the major employers in Macau, GEG is dedicated to providing training and other recreational activities for its team members, to help them to develop successful careers and healthy lifestyles.

GEG is also committed to being an active and responsible member of the community by contributing to local organizations and charities, and continuously encouraging staff to spread their love and care to those most in need.  And in just the past six months, GEG team members have been involved in a wide variety of programs and activities doing just this.

The GEG Youth Achievement Program, co-organized by Macau Management Association and GEG, celebrated its fourth anniversary this year, with the six winners of the final program embarking on a challenging and fascinating six-day study tour to Vietnam. The objective of the program is to nurture the individual and professional growth of Macau’s young talent, through organizing leadership camps, workshops and final projects.  Since its inception, approximately 1,400 local youths between the ages of 18 and 29 have taken part.   Last month, the opening ceremony for the fifth GEG Youth Achievement Program was held at the Grand Ballroom of StarWorld Hotel, to invite the next group of participants.  The theme of the upcoming Program will focus on enhancing young people’s awareness of the needs of the community.

Helping the disadvantaged in society is a major focus for GEG team members, for the past six months they have proactively organized a number of events to give back to the community. In August, GEG volunteers donated more than 600 duvets to four charitable organizations including the Happy Market of the Fuhong Society of Macau, Good Fortune Charity Shop of Caritas Macau, General Union of Neighbourhood Association of Macau and the Women’s General Association of Macau. Later that month, 30 members of the GEG volunteer team spent a Sunday afternoon with 70 elderly residents near the Taipa Houses Museum and distributed food packs containing biscuits, cereal, noodles and cooking oil.  The activity was part of the fifth annual One Day Volunteering scheme, organized by Macau Juvenile Volunteer Association.

Another exciting and entertaining way of supporting local charities is the highly anticipated Galaxy Got Talent competition.  Now in its seventh year, the Grand Final was attended by over 2,000 GEG team members, there to show their support for the ten final acts.  Funds from the sale of entry tickets totaled MOP150,000, and were donated to the Macao Special Olympics to support their daily operations service expansion.

This year also saw the continuing cooperation between GEG and Sheng Kung Hui Gambling Counseling and Family Wellness Center, in their efforts to enhance awareness of responsible gaming.  In July, for the second year in a row, they held responsible gaming roadshows at all the GEG properties to encourage participants to care for their friends and families under stress, and to offer them assistance when necessary.  In September, they co-organized their third annual responsible gaming workshop, and in October they premiered the micro movie production The way out of Problem Gambling, co-sponsored by the Social Welfare Bureau of Macao.  The original film was based on a true story and made by a local movie production team featuring local actors.

With the success of these many activities in 2015, GEG team members are now looking forward to continuing to give back to the community and developing themselves further in the new year to come.
