The Smurfs Come to Town

by

The much-loved Smurfs came to Galaxy Macau™ this summer, delighting children and parents alike. After a screening of the film Smurfs 2 families were invited to play and spend time together at a specially built Smurf Village

The East Square at Galaxy Macau™ was transformed into a magical realm from the 13th of July to the 11th of August this summer, as the Smurfs came to town, spreading their goodwill and love of fun around the square. Complete with colourful giant mushrooms and statues of some of the most famous Smurf characters such as Pappa and Smurfette, Smurf Village was the best place to spend time together as a family and to enjoy all the activities on offer.

Following the hugely successful film The Smurfs, the release of The Smurfs 2 (3D), invites audiences to follow the much-loved little blue characters all the way to the French capital of Paris, where Gargamel has kidnapped Smurfette in an attempt to discover the secret spell, which only she knows, that will allow him access to Smurf-essence and give him the power to fulfill all his evil plans. It is up to Pappa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity, along with their human friends, to rescue her.

On Sunday the 4th of August, 180 members from three local associations; General Union of Neighborhood Associations of Macau, Macao Federation of Trade Unions and Women’s General Association of Macau, accompanied by nearly 20 members from the Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) volunteer team, were invited to UA Galaxy Cinemas to attend a screening of one of the summer’s most eagerly anticipated family films.

After watching The Smurfs 2 (3D) the laughter continued as the film goers, now all wearing white Smurf hats, proceeded to the Smurf Village where they posed for photographs next to some of their favourite characters, and had the opportunity to engage in a number of different games and activities in the giant mushrooms. Everything from face painting, to Smurf-inspired arts and crafts, to games, were made available to all fans of the blue characters, irrespective of their age!

Speaking during the event, Gary Mak, a GEG volunteer from the table games department said, “The parents and the children are really enjoying the interactive activities that the village has provided for them, booths have been set up for this, and they are free. We have several themed booths and the basketball and the DIY booths seem to be the most popular, especially the DIY booth because the children can make Smurf-themed items relating to the movie, so they really enjoy that!”
In The Smurfs 2 film we are taught the value of family love and this is something Gary Mak feels is communicated through the Smurf Village experience. “The main message behind the film is family, and how parents and children care for each other, and in that way the activities here convey that message as this is a great opportunity for children and parents to interact, and to show that they care about each other.”

To spread summer fun around the community, on another occasion GEG continued to share the “Smurfy merriment” with 200 members from Macau Deaf Association, Richmond Fellowship of Macau and Ying Lok – The Methodist Church Macau, ensuring that the Smurf’s message of kindness and good spirit reached as many people as possible.
