What is your idea of a perfect day?
Swimming in the open sea in the morning; enjoying a relaxing brunch on a terrace; spending the afternoon reading and playing with my kids; and enjoying dinner al fresco with friends and family. Pretty basic really.

Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, Vaclav Havel and Olympe de Gouges.
What are you reading now?
I always read several books at the same time: at the moment, EvgenyMorozov’s 'The Net Delusion: The Dark Side of Internet Freedom', Thomas Piketty’s 'Capital in the 21st Century', and Jason Wordie’s 'Macao—People, and Places, Past and Present'.
And what’s playing on your headphones?
R. Wan’s 'Peau Rouge' album.
What is your favorite French director and film?
Georges Lautner’s 'Les Tontons flingueurs'.
As a scholar, what’s the discipline you appreciate the most?
What else: political science!
Which overseas university would you recommend most highly to your students?
The Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, my alma mater; the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, USJ’s key partner; and McGill in Montreal for its international outlook.
