The long-term partnership between ORBIS and Macau International Airport soars to new heights when both parties joined hands again this month to host an exhibition at the departure lounge of the Airport, highlighting the sight-saving work of ORBIS to all passengers. The exhibition will last until August 30th.
This August, departing passengers will have a chance to learn more about how ORBIS restores sight around the world through the beautiful pictures taken by volunteer photographers.
The are currently 39 million blind people in the world, but 80% of the blindness can either be prevented or cured if the necessary medical service is available to them. In the past three decades, ORBIS has initiated over 1,000 programs, and trained up over 325,000 eye care professionals, which has benefited people in over 92 countries. The many pictures exhibited are aimed to boost public awareness of the need to fight against avoidable blindness and to save the visually impaired from darkness.
Throughout these years, CAM and ORBIS share the same belief that everyone has the right to sight and CAM demonstrated their long-term support to ORBIS’ mission by lending generous hands to the past five goodwill tours of the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital since 1995. Thousands of locals toured the world’s only “hospital with wings” during its stays in Macau. CAM also co-hosted the first-ever charity plane pull in 2007, when over 300 citizens competed for the fastest pull of the 330,000-pound Flying Eye Hospital. Other ways that CAM helped ORBIS reduce costs include office sponsorship when ORBIS Macau office opened in 2007.
Along with the photo exhibition, ORBIS Macau has organized an online campaign to further add colors to visitors’ experiences. Simply take a photo at the exhibition, log on and LIKE the ORBIS Macau fan page (www.facebook.com/ORBISMacau), check-in at Macau International Airport and upload your photo. Upon completion, send your name, contact number and address to ORBIS Macau’s inbox on Facebook. If your photo gets most “Likes”, you will win a commemorative gift from ORBIS. Act now and join the meaningful initiative.
About ORBIS
ORBIS International is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization dedicated to saving sight worldwide. ORBIS prevents and treats blindness through hands-on training, public health education, improved access to quality eye care, and partnerships with local health care organizations in an effort to eliminate avoidable blindness. By building their long-term capabilities, ORBIS helps its partner institutions take action to reach a state where they can provide, on their own, quality eye care services that are affordable, accessible, and sustainable. Since 1982, ORBIS has initiated over 1,000 programs which benefited people in 92 countries, enhancing the skills of more than 325,000 health care personnel and providing eye care treatment for more than 23.3 million people.
As a subsidiary of ORBIS International, ORBIS Macau was formally registered in Macau in 2006, aiming to raise public awareness on the global blindness problem and call for the support of local community. Over the years, ORBIS Macau had promoted a variety of activities to help raise funds for ORBIS’ sight-saving projects and advocate the importance of eye care and health issues. Engaging local corporations and schools through various joint campaigns were proved to be effective ways to drive support from employees and students in the fight against preventable blindness.
