“Macau 2021 – A Strange Familiarity”

Macau CLOSER is proud to announce the Macau 2021 – A Strange Familiarity photography competition.

Macau CLOSER is proud to announce the Macau 2021 – A Strange Familiarity photography competition.

And good news… the deadline for submitting your entries has now been extended to October 15!

2021 has been a year of ups and downs, of high hopes for better days to the utmost pessimism about the future. In short, a very suitable terrain for creativity. “A Strange Familiarity” suggests the phenomenon of experiencing situations that one recognizes in some fashion, but that nonetheless seem novel and unfamiliar, just as the current times that we are all in.

This competition invites Macau-based photographers to submit some of their best photos taken since the beginning of the year, to be considered by a jury of experts and to be in the running to win great cash prizes.

Entrants should try to present an image of the city that symbolizes or reflects the subject given, as they view it. A title and description should accompany each entry.

The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers.

Photos can be submitted into one of two competition categories:

• Single photo

• Series (minimum of 3, maximum of 5)

The competition Jury will select a short list of photographs for consideration. The photographs will be presented on Macau CLOSER’s Facebook page for the public to vote on.  The jurors will select the winning photographs in both categories, and there will be a separate prize reflecting the winners of the online voting.

The first prize winner in each of the above two categories will win a cash prize of MOP 10,000. The runners-up in each category will win a cash prize of MOP 5,000.  The winner of the online voting will win a cash prize of MOP 5,000; the runner-up, will win MOP 3,000; and third place will win MOP 2,000.  The Jury will also select a maximum of five Honorary Mentions.

A selection of submitted photographs will be published in the November-December issue of Macau CLOSER magazine, and in our sister publication, Ponto Final newspaper.
