Florence Lam has been the Director of IAOHIN Gallery since 2012. She studied a Master’s degree in International Strategic Management at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. A Macau native, Florence returned to Macau to embark on her journey in the art world. She has had a successful career with several international companies and start-ups and is also engaged in lecturing and teaching.
What’s your idea of a perfect day?
My perfect day was the day of my wedding and the day of my daughter’s birth. Now my ideal day means a morning with a good cup of tea, around my husband and daughter who are happy, in good health and smiling. Then spending the whole day in bathrobes, playing games and watching films together.
If you could invite any four people (living or dead) to dinner, who would they be?
Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha and Moses. We would eat multiplied fish both halal, kosher and vegetarian and call it the Last Supper.
What’s your favourite restaurant in town?
Anywhere quiet and clean.
And your favourite contemporary visual artist?
Banksy, he has a lot of really great and strong ideas.
If you could curate an exhibition from any
world-class artist at your gallery, who would you choose?
Salvador Dali. It would be surreal.
Which book are you reading right now?
None. But I hold three library cards!
If your house was on fire and your family was safe, what would be the three first things you would save?
My passport, certificates and my iPhone, which has almost three years worth of photos I’ve always meant to back up.
What virtue do you most admire in others?
Selflessness.
If you could travel to any place on earth, where would you go?
Lascaux caves to see some of the world’s oldest art. Visiting is not allowed though as the public are banned from entering the caves.
What is one word you would use to describe Macau?
Chaos.
