Christmas, the major season for gifts, shopping and overall consumption around the world, is arriving once again. Life doesn’t necessarily need to be like this – and shouldn’t be like this – all the time, but this is that time of the year when it’s hardest to resist, we confess.
As in previous years, CLOSER is supporting the Macau Shopping Festival, a joint effort by different companies to push the retail sector forward and generate more income, something Macau greatly needs. And that’s why, once again, we have chosen December to feature another exciting Shopping Issue.
Gaming, entertainment and shopping are, and will most likely contine to be, the base of Macau’s economy for many years to come. On the shopping front, the city already has a large number of high-end shopping areas with basically all the imaginable top brands. We take a look at one of them – the shops at Wynn Macau – and this time also focus our attention on smaller local retailers. Even with all the difficulties caused by the high commercial rental market in Macau, there are still many interesting and quality shops waiting to be discovered, along with their products. We offer you a guide to some of them with great suggestions for Christmas gifts.
Buying for yourself and the ones you care about is an affair you’ll find hard to avoid at Christmas. But Christmas is not only about the tree, the presents and the chubby bearded man in a red costume. It is also a time for solidarity and affection, a time to be together, a time for family and friends. No matter how busy life can be sometimes, always remember to cherish your loved ones. We shouldn’t need a reason for that, but Christmas is a pretty good one just the same.

Christmas also appeared to us as the perfect time to interview a man whose name is linked to the season…Jesus, in this case Jorge Jesus. The Portuguese coach, a rising star in European football, left Benfica to go and train its greatest rival Sporting at the beginning of this season. Months have passed, he has changed job and colors and fans, but he keeps winning just like before. In an exclusive interview with CLOSER, Jesus talks about himself and his career, about Chinese football and his ambitions as a coach. Don’t miss this excellent read, just like many other great features we’re bringing you this month, from the Michelin starred restaurants in Macau to the new Cinemateque Passion and the fascinating story behind the old Hotel Estoril.
And before you dive into this new issue of our magazine, let me, on behalf of all our team here at CLOSER, wish you a very Merry Christmas and an excellent 2016! Stay CLOSER!
