FROM THE PUBLISHER’S DESK #MAR/APR 2019

It’s always remarkable how such a small town like Macau can present such a wide variety of cultural and artistic offerings – both produced locally and those visiting from around the world.  In our cover story this issue, we speak exclusively to Mr Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Ltd, about the ambitious plans the company has to make art more a part of the local tourism landscape, and in particular, cutting-edge digital art that allows for exciting interaction and immersion for the viewer.

“Macau people and visitors are blessed with an amazing array of choice. I’ve never seen a city of this population, with such a rich cultural offering,” noted Mr Bowie in our interview with him.

Currently MGM COTAI is hosting world famous hip hop group Jabbawockeez, in its new theater, and next month it will present the The Harry Potter Film Concert Series and host its second Art Symposium with the theme of “Transforming Art with Technology”.

Also in town this month is the 8th edition of The Script Road – Macau Literary Festival, and in this issue we meet some more of the international talent visiting for this unique event.  Across the harbour, Hong Kong will host its Art Week, with Art Basel and Art Central as major highlights. We preview just some of the exciting artists and exhibitions on the way.

On the Gourmet scene, we meet up with Michelin starred Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa as he introduces some of the exquisite signature dishes on offer at his new fine dining Portuguese restaurant, Chiado, in Cotai Central. And we chat with visiting Italian wine exporter, Luca Garelli, about the appeal of wines from the Emilia-Romagna region.

The world of Fashion was in mourning recently with the news of the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, a giant in the industry,  the likes of whom we will likely never see again.  We take a look back at the inspiring life and legacy of the true king of the industry.

We also explore one of the most historically significant buildings in the city, Leal Senado, and learn of its many functions over the centuries.   And we go on safari in the Maputo Special Reserve in Mozambique, also known to many as “Elephants Reserve”, one of the world’s richest areas of biodiversity.
