#JUNE

There are very few industries in Macau that haven’t been impacted by the economic boom over the past years.  But one sector you might not have thought of so much is modeling. With the increasing number of exhibitions and conventions, and high-end retail shops, every time an event is held, there is demand for some beautiful young faces, both male and female, to be present.

And of course, Macau’s glitz and glamour has become a great backdrop for fashion shoots and TV and movie productions, which again require the participation of appropriately glamorous models.

Despite being a small town, Macau has also produced some beautiful homegrown talent, many of whom we have featured in some of our past issues over the years.  Miss Macau 2008, Florence Loi was one of our cover girls, and represented Macau at Miss International 2008. Laura Li, winner of the Miss Macau 2009 attended Miss International 2009 and Miss Chinese International 2010, and Winnie Sin participated in Miss World 2012. The winners of the Macau Cover Girl competitions, Gloria Chu and Vera Rodrigues graced our covers in December 2011 and October 2012.  And our December 2013 cover presented local model and face of Herbalife in China, Mariana Sa.

In this month’s issue, we meet Annabelle Lin, Macau’s beautiful entrant in the recent World Supermodel Production that was held at Macau Tower last month.  We speak with her and others in the world of modeling in Macau to get their insights into the local industry and tips for aspiring young modeling talent in the city.

Also in this issue, our photographer Eduardo Martins goes behind the scenes at the 2017 Macao Arts Festival to capture a unique viewpoint of a few of the more colourful performances at this year’s event.

We catch up with the Badas women’s dragon boat team as they prepare for 60 seconds of grit and struggle out on the waters of Nam Van Lake at this year’s Macau Dragon Boat competition.

From Portugal, we interview Chinese director Song Chuan who presented his film Ciao Ciao at this year’s IndieLisboa. And we also talk to some devout local Catholics who made the pilgrimage to Fatima this year for the 100th anniversary of the famous appearances that have placed this town so prominently on the religious map.

Happy reading!
