NOV / DEC 2024 Issue

A fresh coat of paint always makes things look new and this year’s !OUTLOUD International Street Art Festival held in early December, took that concept to a whole new level, hosting 33 talented artists from all over the region to apply their creativity to walls all around the Praça de Ponte e Horte area.  The sixth edition of this popular festival was the biggest yet, featuring not only vibrant street art, but Hip Hop dance competitions, skateboard jams, live DJs, a high tech digital graffiti wall and much more.  In our cover story this issue, we speak with the organisers of this ground-breaking event, PIBG and Cassidy Chan about the challenges and achievements of the Festival so far.

Local artist Crystal Chan recently unveiled her latest series of works at an exhibition entitled Subtropical Romance at Taipa Village Art Space and we caught up with her to speak about the evolution of her art in recent years.  And we also chat with the co-curators of Macau’s Resonance, an exhibition of various artistic mediums to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Macau’s Handover.

Halftone photography magazine celebrated its third anniversary with an exhibition of 24 photographers at the Rui Cunha Gallery recently, and we feature a number of these beautiful images in our Portfolio pages this issue.

On the topic of beauty, we also present some of the latest outfits from talented local fashion designers on the catwalks of the Macau Fashion Festival, held in November at The Venetian Macao, so make sure you check out their amazing collections in these pages.

Macau hosted two major sporting events recently. The 71st edition of the Macau Grand Prix saw the introduction of the new Formula Regional class of single-seater racing cars on a weekend of challenging road conditions due to frequent rain, which put drivers of all categories to the test.  And the UFC returned to the city after a ten-year hiatus with a fantastic card of exciting fights.  In the main event, Petr ‘No Mercy’ Yan, defeated Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo, and Yan Xiaonan overcame Tabatha Ricci, all in front of an ecstatic sell-out crowd at the Galaxy Arena.

In our Closer Cellar section, we meet Renato Henriques who was in town recently representing one the latest best-selling items at the Portuguese Bookstore, Licor 35 Creme de Pastel de Nata Liqueur, a deliciously creamy Egg Tart flavoured liqueur.

And finally, we visit the new home of one of the most beloved couples in Macau, Guy and Vicky Lesquoy, to hear more about their fascinating stories of living in Macau.  The lovely duo have been married for 22 years, and this year Guy celebrates 45 years in Macau, after having brought the Crazy Paris show here way back in 1979.

To all our readers and partners, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  We hope you can enjoy all the festivities surrounded by the love and company of good friends and family!

And as always, Happy Reading!
