The summer holidays are almost here and to get into the summer vibe this issue, we spent a fun afternoon at the Resort and Spa at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau with the ever-creative locally-based fashion designer Bella Horner and some of the latest swimsuit and resort wear pieces from her brand Alta Bella. Established in 2021, the brand focuses on handmade, high-quality swimwear that combines style, sustainability, and inclusivity, and is enjoying great success and popularity. And what better place to photograph these lovely outfits than the inner city tropical oasis of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau.
Speaking of summer vibes, in May the poolside area of Banyan Tree Macau was completely taken over by Louis Vuitton for the pre-launch of the LV By the Pool FW24 women’s collection Pre-fall 24 drop 2 men’s collection, with a number of products exclusively available at the LV store at Galaxy Macau.
In the world of art we check out the installation work of Wong Weng Cheong who is representing Macau at the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Art Biennale, with his piece Above Zobeide. We also speak with local director Oliver Fa whose latest mini-series Taste of Love aired on TDM recently. The series explores journeys of love and friendship, across time and culture, all focused around a family recipe for delicious Macanese cuisine.
Another TV series, this time on Hong Kong’s TVB, Sinister Beings 2 wrapped up recently, and two episodes featured well-known Macau resident Reggie Martin playing the bad guy role in the show. We chat with him about the fun time he had on set.
We also had the chance to immerse ourselves in the amazing high tech shows at Wynn’s Illuminarium, and we check out the impressive sculptures by contemporary Chinese artist Ren Zhe at new exhibition Legends of Chivalry at MGM Cotai.
Looking for authentic French cuisine in the heart of Macau? Go no further than Le Bouchon which opened in January. Headed by long term Macau resident Bernard Peres and well-known French Chef Eve Duron, this cozy downtown restaurant serves up excellent Lyonnaise cuisine at great prices.
And popping over to Italy, we enjoy some wonderful Prosecco served up by the Italian Chamber of Commerce at a special event at Terrazza Restaurant at Galaxy Macau.
Recently, we had a sneak-peak at the futuristic Tesla Cybertruck when it paid a visit to Macau. It’s not available here just yet, but it’s still a lot of fun to see and talk about.
In Home Affairs, José Carlos Pereira introduces us to his staggering collection of art pieces gathered up over his 30 years in Macau. And in Closing Story we learn about the fascinating history of one of the city’s most infamous buildings, Hotel Central, which recently reopened after extensive renovations.
