The World of Lusofonia Arts

by
Amagao Gallery opened its doors last month at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau as a new addition to the bespoke experiences the hotel has to offer as an artistic and cultural enclave. With its mission to promote the arts and culture of the Portuguese-speaking world including Macau, the gallery aims to host quarterly exhibitions and art events with special invited artists, and to showcase artworks of a smaller scale, as well as art-inspired gifts at the Amagao kiosk.

To commemorate the opening, Amagao Gallery also unveiled its debut art exhibition Color Lusofonia, featuring a variety of works of some 50 artists from Portuguese-speaking countries. The art pieces were selected from the spectacular gallery collection of over 300 works, bringing famous and well-established artists, young and emerging ones together, along with Macau-based artists. It is a celebration of a Sino-Portuguese artistic and creative exchange, bridging China and the Lusophone world.

Raquel Gralheiro, a renowned Portuguese artist, is the special invited artist for the opening exhibition. She is an artist who challenges viewers with her use of intense, vivid and contrasting colors infused with playfulness. Her works are a perfect showcase of the power of arts in life, creativity and imagination.

“We have been committed to advancing the arts in Macau. Today, we are glad to see our visions come true, with a unique art space we have curated near the hotel lobby of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau,” commented the Managing Partners of Amagao Gallery, Mr. José I. Duarte, Ms. Lina Ramadas and Mr. Victor Hugo Marreiros.

“Our aim is to give visibility and market to the immense variety and creativity of Lusofonia visual arts. But it is also our intention to keep the door open for other artists and designers, namely from China and especially Macau. With its history of openness, connection to the world, and unique links to the Lusofonia area, Macau provides the right cornerstone to achieve those goals,” the Managing Partners added.

“We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Amagao Gallery, as part of Artyzen’s mission to share arts, culture and emotional wisdom with our guests. It is a truly beautiful addition to the hotel as we continue to create an artistic and cultural journey for our guests, and to captivate the city with inspiring arts,” said Mr. Rutger Verschuren, Area Vice President, Macau Operations of Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau.

“Macau has always been a bridge between East and West, a charming platform between China and the Lusophone world, and Amagao Gallery at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau serves as a perfect gateway for all to see the future in Portugal’s colorful past. We are honored to be an integral part of elevating the vibrant art scene of our beloved city, and color the art map of Macau. We look forward to welcoming our community to explore and appreciate the unique art works revealing the energy, history and impact of the Lusophone World. Among the initiatives to promote this, we will organize culinary and musical events as well as active workshops and classes to connect to art in a meaningful and fun way,’ added Mr. Verschuren.

Amagao Gallery is managed by Galeria 57 (Macau), a company active in Macau since 2005. It builds on its extensive participation in international events and its experience in promoting artists from Portuguese-speaking countries. To foster the art and cultural development of Macau, the Gallery is also open and committed to cooperating with local schools for art events and other educational activities.

Color Lusofonia is the opening exhibition of the Gallery and will be followed by three more exhibitions this year in June, October, and December.
