Winter Warmth

Winter is just around the corner, and CCM’s ARTwarming Winter series is back.
by

This year, nature elements are a common theme in a season finale that will bring together the special energy of productions from Ireland and Sweden to be complemented with the warming tunes of the young voices of CCM’s Singing Club.

A walk in the forest

The fun begins with a simple story coming from Northern Ireland, filled with discovery and suspense. Shh! We Have a Plan tells the story of a group of friends trying to solve a problem, each in his own way. The exciting show transports audiences to the enchanting world imagined and illustrated by Chris Haughton, awarded author of the original book of the same name. Kids will be entranced by the funny journey of three rather madcap characters, on their nonsense forest spree to capture a beautiful bird perched high on a branch.

Without words, this family adventure for young children is staged by Belfast based troupe CahootsNI, bringing an enchanting mix of music, pantomime, puppetry and clever storytelling.

When the group’s physical, instinctive quest to catch a flying creature develops into a new-found appreciation for nature’s beauty, the hunting expedition turns into a voyage of discovery, sure to resonate with kids and parents alike.

Sensorial initiation

This winter, babies up to one and half years old and their parents are invited to join an exceptionally immersive, multi-sensorial experience in The Garden of Spirited Minds.  Coming all the way from Sweden, the production initiates babies into the world of the performing arts, offering multiple perspectives and exploring a myriad of shapes, stimulating tiny tots through sound, movement and natural smells.

The idea was born from the restless mind of Dalija Acin Thelander, an award-winning choreographer based in Stockholm who has dedicated her professional life to understanding and boosting the developmental needs of babies.

For this project, the choreographer has imagined a wide installation space where she and a couple of dancers interact with the babies amidst a relaxing landscape of ever-changing colours and mind-sets, revealed to the sound of sweet instrumental lullabies. Dalija’s ultimate wish is for the babies to be part of their own performance as co-creators, triggering a will to explore and wander in what might be their very first adventure of many!

And closing a year of creativity, December brings yet another performing moment on stage, when The Singing Club will step up for a fantastic afternoon of songs and movement to the sound of great tunes. Family and friends are invited to feel the joy of the choral performance, with a mix of classic songs and world music, this time based around the theme of environmental protection.

The impact of melodies, colours, songs, acting and lights are known to have emotional and psychological benefits in people’s lives. And the sooner this positive impact is felt, the better, so, this winter let your kids feel the immediate boost that only the arts can provide to their highly absorbing minds!
