After twelve years of dedicated effort developing Creative Macau – Centre for Creative Industry into a platform for local and global creativity, Coordinator Lúcia Lemos says that they are still not entirely satisfied with their achievements, and are planning to better assist the development of the local creative industries in the coming years.
The project, developed and managed by the Institute of European Studies of Macau, aims to showcase local creativity, as well as serving as a platform for business and the creative minds in the city. In fact, Creative Macau can be considered a pioneer in this area.
In 2010, more galleries and projects started to take shape in Macau, and this prompted Creative Macau to create and invest in their new projects within the Creative Macau – Centre for Creative Industry project.
“In 2010, we launched a animation competition for locals, because our focus has always been local talents.”
After organizing the competition for two years, Creative Macau chose to expand the competition into an international event in 2012, which led to an increase in the number of submissions and an improvement in the quality of the works they received.
In 2013, Creative Macau decided to further upscale the event, which was then named Sound and Image Challenge Worldwide, and to include more categories. In 2014, they also invited the Faculty of Creative Industries from the University of Saint Joseph to be co-organizers.
This year, the organizer has named the event Sound and Image Challenge Festival, and will organize some activities at special venues such as the Dom Pedro V Theatre and the Cinema Alegria (Weng Lok).
Talking about the future of Creative Macau, the Coordinator believes that their organization is still in the process of establishing itself.
“For now, we want to continue organizing programs and exhibitions and establishing the Sound and Image Challenge, which I think is very important,” Lúcia concludes.
