The TEDx series of conferences wants to stage Macau's best ideas on March 3 at Teatro D. Pedro V. Speaking to CLOSER's sister publication, PONTO FINAL Newspaper, Venus Loi, the event curator, didn’t reveal the speaker line-up, saying only that it will be "a handful of people".
The "Ripple" theme is expressed through nautical metaphors which the TEDx event is communicating through social networks: "In 2019 we hope that the speakers and the audience will become a 'boat' that ripples on the waters of the lake in Macau."
This will not be the first such event in the territory. In the past, the University of Macau already organized a TEDx conference. This will, however, be the first time it will be held at Teatro D. Pedro V.
"The difference is that our event is open to the public, the event at the university was for students and staff. We have different target audiences," Venus Loi said.
TEDx Senado Square "will be a good platform for many people, known or not, who have good ideas and who want to share them," said Venus Loi, the curator of the event. "Not only for Macau, but for the whole world," she said, adding: "We will make the videos available on YouTube so it will be available to a large audience".
That’s as much as the curator would reveal at this time. The names of the speakers, the specific themes of the lectures, and the number of conferences are not yet known.
Venus Loi said it will be "a handful of people talking." "I cannot reveal how many there are, yet."
On social networks, the description of the event is communicated through nautical metaphors: "In 2019 we hope that the speakers and the audience will become a 'boat' floating on the waters of the lake in Macau and eventually the wave will travel around the world, creating a ripple".
"TEDx is an international community that organizes TED-style events around the world, celebrating local ideas and elevating them to a global stage," reads the online page dedicated to the event. Venus Loi, who has participated in the organization of the TEDx conference at the University of Durham, as well as in Bath and Exeter in the United Kingdom, says the team working on the Macau edition are "passionate young people who want to share their ideas". "We are a group of friends who have been accompanying TEDx," said Venus Loi, who works in the area of event organization.
