A Summer of Family Fun and Art

by

The Macao Cultural Centre (CCM) is launching a brand new edition of “ARTmusing Summer”, ready to hit the stage from late July to early September with a diverse string of performances specially selected to appeal to both kids and grown-ups. From clowns to animation and jazz, this series has been conceived for the whole family.

Pâtacrêp’

Hailing from France, Pâtacrêp is a hilarious story for kids aged three and above. Compagnie Choc Trio travels with Maurice and Cornelius, two greedy and lazy clowns performing a blend of mime, juggling, gags and original tunes played with the help of both baking utensils and real instruments. The French company has performed more than 1,000 shows for audiences of all ages using the universal language of visual comedy and music.

Songs from Above

‘Songs from Above’ is a gentle journey to the world of puppetry for children aged two to four. Inside a white tent, kids are invited to sit very close to the action as they contemplate the joys of being small. Conceived and developed by Teater Refleksion, an awarded Danish company, this piece tells us about the beauty of the world using a series of tiny puppets.
July 29 ~ August 3

Magic Piano & the Chopin Shorts

The power of Chopin’s masterpieces complements a colourful animation in ‘Magic Piano’, a fantastic story telling the adventures of Anna, a 10-year-old girl, her cousin and a truly amazing piano. The two cousins defy fear and fly faraway from Poland to Paris’ roof tops and over London’s misty skies, where the little girl searches for her father to bring him home. Accompanied by Hong Kong awarded pianist Colleen Lee, ‘Magic Piano’ will also take audiences through ‘The Chopin Shorts’, a humorous collection of short films endorsed by Lang Lang, who recorded the original set of Chopin’s Études for the project. This programme premiered in London and has toured New York and Melbourne, amongst other cities, taking children on a journey into the world of classical music, through the pieces of one of the greatest composers of all time. Entertainment guaranteed for children aged six and above with their families.

Constellations
Spanish group Aracaladanza invites us for a taste of ‘Constellations’, a dance cocktail of colours, shapes and games conceived after the imagery of Joan Miró, one of the 20th Century’s most iconic artists. The performance brings five dancers on stage conveying the Catalan painter’s emotional universe. Light and movement are used to open the doors of fantasy, complemented with amazing props, puppetry and inventive animation in a performance suitable for families and children aged four and above. Founded in Madrid in 1995, Aracaladanza has been providing performances for the whole family enchanting audiences both nationally and internationally.

Christian McBride Big Band

As well as family and children, Artmusing Summer’s programme doesn’t forget the adults. Renowned bass player, bandleader and composer, Christian McBride is considered an exhilarating and powerful force that has definitely conquered the jazz world. His big band is coming to Macau with a concert line-up including the coolest sounds, from blues and bebop jazz to the golden oldies and his own original tunes. In 2011, McBride’s big band was awarded a Grammy for the recording of ‘The Good Feeling’, an album featuring reinvented arrangements of jazz standards such as ‘Broadway’ and original works like ‘Bluesin’ in Alphabet City’, a piece commissioned by Wynton Marsalis for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. For over 20 years, the star bassist has played and collaborated in more than 300 recordings and performed in numerous musical settings with just about every big jazz name, from Sonny Rollins to Herbie Hancock.
