My Nini – Huang Benrei Works Private Collection Exhibition was launched at the end of March at H853 Art Space at Lisboeta Macau, presenting a series of art pieces created around the theme of a rabbit character – ‘Nini’.
The pieces belong to and are presented by Mr. Arnaldo Ho, in the hopes of sharing with the public his personal collection as well as to deliver the positive and optimistic ‘Nini’ spirit.
The Exhibition presents 27 paintings and sculptures, with each artwork showing different characteristics and styles of the rabbit ‘Nini’. The venue is separated into three unique zones, namely HIDE&SEEK, MY SPRING GARDEN and NINI’s ATTITUDE, each making a very photogenic location, and allowing visitors to interact with ‘Nini’ in different creative forms.
“I find the ‘Nini’ created by Huange Benrei to be very healing when you look at it. It might just look like a rabbit with no facial expression but when I look at the series, I realise ‘Nini’ actually stays calm in all situations and I am inspired by how ‘Nini’ uses this kind of positive vibe to face all of life’s challenges,” explains Arnaldo. “I hope to share my collections through the exhibition, and to allow more people to be inspired the same way as I am – to stay positive and calm towards any situation.”
Huang Benrei’s ‘Nini’ series reminds audiences to move forward courageously and with a sense of humour against the universe, maintaining a firm and optimistic attitude when facing difficulties and challenges in life.
“I hope visitors can immerse themselves in the overall artistic atmosphere and enjoy the exhibition as a whole, consider their inner self and get a sense of being healed and relaxed,” says Arnaldo. “Through ‘Nini’, Huang Benrei is trying to say: “Sometimes the world gets dark and heavy, but we can always brighten it with a lighter heart.” I hope audiences can walk out from the exhibition with a lighter heart too.”
Arnaldo was introduced to art at a very young age, in many different forms including paintings, sculpture, dance and music. Surrounded by art, it became his hobby, not only to appreciate it, but also to collect it.
“I love collecting art because every art piece has a unique story behind it and I have my own different interpretation of each, and each inspires me again when I look at it,” he comments. “What fascinates me about art is that there is no right or wrong, the artwork itself does not have any specific emotions and everyone can have their own understanding and interpretation. I think art can play a key role in everyone’s daily life, giving us a chance to connect and talk to ourselves, to reflect on our attitudes towards life and be inspired. A lot of people have the idea that art is something hard to approach and not related to them. I hope this exhibition can change their minds.”
