The exhibition "Risk is Good" will showcase the work of six artists from Macau, Alice Leong, Jovinia Antonio, Silvia Sales, Yaya Vai, Leong Leng and Luna Cheong at Creative Macau. The inauguration is scheduled for April 25.
Alice Leong "explores art through everyday life. Numerous trials and frustrations offered her a penetrating vision and deep experience endowing her with confidence in her artistic pursuit," reads a statement by the organization. Jovinia António is the founder and designer of the local textile design brand Stardust Journey. She returned to Macau after finishing her studies in textile design in the UK in 2015.
Sílvia Sales' inspiration for her artwork stems from her father's "emotions, feelings, music, and unique drawing style." Her work tends to be abstract. "When I start a sketch, I draw anything I want instead of pre-defining a topic. Drawing is the best way to express my inner feelings and release pressure. I can leave a mark at any time in my life," says the artist, quoted in the organization's statement.
Yaya Vai began to learn pencil drawing and oil painting in 2000. Her works were selected and exhibited in several joint exhibitions in Macau. Leong Leng took drawing classes with Macau artist Tam Chi Sang. She spent five years in the United States, where she completed her university education, the diverse environment led her to become interested in distinct art forms, including film, photography, architecture and music. After returning to Hong Kong in 2009, she began to explore oil painting. Her most recent art represents a "spontaneous and intuitive exploration of human figures through emotions."
Luna Cheong graduated from the Polytechnic Institute of Macau in Visual Arts. She has participated in several joint exhibitions in Macau and Taiwan since 2015. She also held two solo exhibitions in 2017 and 2018. Several of these works of art were presented at the AFA's Autumn Salon in 2017 and at the Women Artists 1st International Biennial of Macao, in 2018.
