
Ann Hui
Ann Hui was born in 1947 in Anshan, Manchuria. Her family settled in Hong Kong in 1952. She made her first feature film in 1979 and was immediately recognized as a key figure in Hong Kong’s nascent “new wave”. She has since worked prolifically in Hong Kong and Mainland China, and she is the only person to win ‘Best Director’ in the Hong Kong Film Awards four times. She has also won two ‘Best Director’ prizes in Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards, and was awarded the Berlinale Kamera for the ensemble of her work in 1997. The films she has directed have won countless other awards, at home and abroad, and she has served as chair of the Directors’ Guild of Hong Kong. She has also produced features for other directors, and has taught at her alma mater, Hong Kong University.

Miguel Costa
Miguel Costa studied at the School of Theatre and Cinema and began his professional career as an assistant producer in film and advertising company, SHOTS. As a director he worked at TDM – Macau TV, Channel News Lisbon, Park of Nations – Expo 98, Novaga, Duvideo and later his own Miguel Costa Films company. Early on, António Victorino D’Almeida became his main actor. He made the feature film entitled O Tempo e as Bruxas, and filmed an extensive documentary A Poética de António Victorino D’ Almeida. Later, he directed another documentary Olga Prats e os compositores portugueses, which is also featuring António Victorino D’Almeida. He won his first prizes at Finisterra- International Tourist Festival with the film West Land Vineyards and Sea, and in Agrofilm – 20th International Film Festival with the film Marcolino Sebo. The film No Divã, with Paulo Pires, André Gago and António Victorino d’Almeida, is one of his latest projects.

João Botelho
João Botelho was born in Lamego in 1949. He attended the School of Cinema of the National Conservatory, and founded the film magazine M. He started in film direction with two short films for RTP (Rádio Televisão Portuguesa) and one documentary Os Bonecos de Santo Aleixo. His films have won awards at festivals in Figueira da Foz, Antwerp, Rio de Janeiro, Venice, Berlin, Salsomaggiore, Pesaro, Belfort and Cartagena. In 2005, he was awarded with the prestigious Ordem do Infante D.Henrique (Grau Comendador), one of Portugal’s highest honors. In 2010, he directed Filme do Desassossego, that is a short version of the work Livro do Desassossego from Bernardo Soares, semi-heteronym the poet Fernando Pessoa. Last year he adapted to cinema the novel Os Maias – Cenas da Vida Romântica from the greatest portuguese writer, Eça de Queiroz.
