Eco Atrophy is a photographic collaboration between writer and artist Tanja Wessels, and photographer Alex Macro, looking at the climate crisis playing out in our lifetimes, plastic oceans, species loss and disappearing nature.
Based in Hong Kong and playing on the contrast of an ultra slick and expensive city that creates a lot of trash, they use photography, performance art and plastic installations to question the unsustainable systems of disposable convenience we all rely on, and perpetuate.
Plastic production is increasing, we wear it, we eat it and we suck on it, despite the growing evidence of its detrimental effect on land, water and the living. When will we acknowledge that this is an emergency?
Tanja Wessels specializes in Eco-Anxiety, chronic concern over environmental collapse, giving public talks on the topic and creating artworks highlighting a concern that is gaining public attention.
Photographer Alex Macro has a career in advertising and fashion that spans over 20 years, shooting for some of the biggest brands from Europe to Asia.
Eco Atrophy has been exhibited at The Conscious Festival by Green is the New Black in 2018 and 2019, Spaces HK, and published in South China Moring Post, and Tywg, South Africa.
