V
the horrors
Their fifth album, described as their “most cohesive album yet” contains all the hallmarks The Horrors have become known for, psychedelia embellished with synths, shoegaze and electro. However, signed to a new record label, the band seem to be moving in an ballsy new direction. In an interview with music magazine NME, frontman Faris Badwan shared that he wants the title of the album, ‘V’ to read as “a f***-you, in a British, two-fingers way,” adding “We thought it was funny.”

LDC Soundsystem
After delivering three of the finest albums, the hits-packed 2005 debut, their grandiose 2007 zenith Sound of Silver, and the masterful 2010 farewell This Is Happening, LCD Soundsytem could be forgiven for hanging up the mic and disappearing into obscurity. But American Dream brought James Murphy back to explore the emotional and political wreckage. An album fit to join it’s predessesors.

The National
Ten years on from their breakout album, 2007’s Boxer, the latest release from The National see the band enter “break-up album” territory. According to lead singer Matt Berninger, “it’s about marriages falling apart.” But don’t switch off: “I’m happily married, but marriage is hard and my wife and I are writing the lyrics together about our own struggles, and it’s difficult to write, but it’s saving my marriage.” And it’s a damn fine listen too.
