Melody lovers are in for a treat when Ludovico Einaudi steps onto CCM’s stage with a fine anthology of his best compositions. The Italian chart-topping composer and master of soundtracks will finally be amongst us for a live concert delight, bringing his seductive and hauntingly beautiful repertoire.
The mild mannered maestro has morphed into a true showman, following nearly 20 years behind the scenes, composing for ballet, theatre and video installations. The fluidity and flexibility of Einaudi’s compositions paved the way to a diversity of worlds, not only on records, but also consistently in sold out concerts at the most prestigious international concert halls. Over the last decade, the pianist smoothly conquered the planet through the Internet where he became one of the most-streamed classical musicians, beating legends like Mozart on the digital music platform Spotify.
Ludovico Einaudi was born in Turin, Italy, and trained as a classical composer and pianist at the Milan Conservatorio before embarking on a career that has seen him achieve spectacular international success across two decades. He has released a series of chart-topping albums with sales exceeding 750,000 copies, sold-out a succession of globe-trotting tours that visit the world’s most prestigious concert halls and composed a string of award-winning film & TV scores. His work is instantly recognisable, transcends traditional boundaries between classical, rock and other musics and is notable both for the enormous scale and diversity of its audience.
Admired by a wide spectrum of other artists, from Iggy Pop and Ricky Gervais to pianist Lang Lang, Einaudi’s unique musical alchemy has made him one of the best-known composers today. His refined music has called the attention of the cinematic world as it has been included in the soundtracks for films like Aronofsky’s Black Swan, French box office hit The Untouchables or Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar. The master’s versatility was also heard on the Japanese thriller The Third Murder and on a string of high profile commercials, from the NBA and Nissan adverts to BBC’s promotional spots.
Back in 2016, Einaudi revealed himself to be a man of causes when he recorded a Greenpeace video, appearing adrift on the ocean, surrounded by melting glaciers while playing Elegy for the Arctic on a floating platform. Seen millions of times, this climate-changing awareness clip could well be used as a metaphor for Einaudi’s essence. Like his music, the images convey a powerful but soothing wave of gentleness that we too, will soon have a chance to witness on our stage.
